So recently I had an incident where I had used my pocket knife to open up some seeds that had been packed in plastic that was all melted together to make a kinda bag I guess for em. Well ended up slicing a tiny chunk out of one of the seeds. I ended up soaking it instead of tossing and it germinated in 8hrs. I gave it a shot because in the past I have accidentally cracked some seeds squeezing them seeing if they crush and 9 times out of ten they, Not only Germinate they start to poke out within 10-24 but always before the non cracked seeds. Anyone else ever try this or inadvertently done this and have success?

I have tried seed cracking intentionally and yes, it does work. There are even purpose made seed crackers on the market. A small pair of pliers and some good hand control is all I used to do exactly the same thing. All you want to do is to barely crack the seed so only squeeze till you hear the pop. I no longer do it, even forgot about it till your post showed up.

Ok @monkeydo, what's your secret germination technique with the hanging of the bag thingy? I can't remember what you and Stootie were doing but I'm down to my last LA Peyote, the other two failed. I lost 1 CKA but the second one is finally off to a shaky start and I lost 2 auto's that didn't fire.
I'm keep them in the frig and letting them warm up for 24hrs, then dropped in RO for 24 or slightly under all seeds crack in the water but no tails, then into Jiffy or Rapid Rooters and then nothing. They sit in a Tupperware with the lid on, then on top of a heat mat with the temp probe in-between the two and set at 78F. All three failed.
Second attempt, same as above but placed them in paper towel for almost three days before tap roots then to a dome with the sensors in with them so the temp is 78f and 70% RH consistent. 1 CKA and that's it out of three.
So my last LA is now warming for 24hrs, and I may scuff it. So what's your hanging tech that you have great success with? I gotta get one to fire, that's all I need. Thanks man, hope you missed the storms. 🖐️
The technique is super easy. Moisten a paper towel and place the beans on the towel so that the pointy side will be at the bottom and the part that was attached to the flower is on top. Hang the bag vertical in a warm place with the correct orientation for a couple of days and the root will form pointing straight down making it easier to transplant. I hang mine either in the water heater closet or near the warm tent exhaust. Ima try to germinate some LAPK to see if those beans are bad but I know the CKA were good. The cooler temps here are also slowing down germination.

Yep, I'm pinpoint on, I've got them headed in the right direction, just gotta get their engine started. It was unusual for three different strains to not sprout twice, but the CKA did and I'm starting the last, 3rd LAPK today. I'll double check that it cracks the shell after soaking. H2O2 helps too, I'll see what happens. Thanks 🖐️
