I’m starting to gear for a grow and my friend threw a spanner in works but giving me some living soil bag and numerous amendments (insect frass, kelp meal, neem meal etc) he bought recently but won’t be using (don’t think his wife was too kean!), and I’m tempted to give it a go.

I’ve never grown in soil before only coco so I’m a complete newbie and a little worried that I’m out my depth. I do feel confident in coco but the daily feedings can get a little taxing and I don’t have someone who can look after them when I’m gone which limits how long I can go away for (I don’t really have the room to set up an automated watering grow).

I only grow autoflowers and I’m wondering if this soil and amendment schedule (I think hes got all the amendments except the worm castings) looks, well, legit or not.

The ingredients are:

Canadian sphagnum peat moss, Big Bio Worm Castings, scoria, mature plant based compost, charged biochar, paramagnetic basalt rock dust, calcium bentonite, malted barley, soft coral lime, gypsum, Acadian Sea Plants kelp meal, neem seed meal.

The amendments and schedule are here:

I’ve tried to research feedback from people who have used it successfully for growing cannabis before but I’m not having much success finding anything about it. The general feedback is online is positive but more, I think, from a general growing sense (veggies and the like).

I know there’s a lot of info in those links but I’m hoping someone that has the knowledge/experience might be able to cast their eyes over it and give me their opinion.

Thanks in advance.

@poshboy The links have been removed. We are not allowed to post links here  if you could down load a copy of the  nutrient schedule and post it as a pic others can have a look and help answer your question.

@poshboy hi mate

as twisted said..

plus when u say bag of living soil did u mean bag for soil ie fabric pot or is it also a ready to go amended soil? if so which brand?

sounds like a switch from coco to super-soil or living soil will allow u some more flexibility with looking after and feeding your girls.. long weekends away are a definite possibility (or longer if u use a drip etc)

welcome to percys

Time to pop some more beans 😗

@poshboy ok cool .. it looks like a good 'supersoil' - pre-amended and ready to go

so i would advise minimum ideally a 40L pot or bigger per plant.. will ensure you shouldnt need to supplement feeding and water only should get u til the end. Depending on strain and how hungry, you may get away with less per plant but the 40L + will have u well covered.. it also allows for longer breaks away ..

For seedlings start the in a lighter bit of soil.. u can dilute a bit with coco around the seed if sowing direct .. or make / use a lighter soil in small pot to start if u prefer the potting on route ..

#just had a check on their website and their instructions look good to me so no issue following it imo

One main v important difference when watering coco and soil is that is much easier to overwater soil.. esp if in a big pot.. this would be my best tip at the start on transitioning from coco to soil.. the 'dryback' is much slower as soil doesnt hold as much air as coco.. once u adapt t this bit its plain sailing

hope u like the switch

lots of good diaries and guides to supersoil / living soil grows

have a look at some of @Twisted1's diaries or @Templegrowers not a bad place to start

good luck any questions help is here

I checked out there site  I would give it a go.

What size pots are you planning to use. Living soil works better in larger pots but ive run them in 5 gallon pots

if they start running short of food i just use a bottle of organic nutes  something with a NPK of 1-1-1 to get them through.

@twisted1 @chillbert - Thank you both for your responses, its given me more confidence to just get on with it and give it a go. So ill start organising myself as there's a few things I need to sort out before germination but im now more determined!

so i would advise minimum ideally a 40L pot or bigger per plant.

I was initially going to go for a 5 gallon but I think now im going to go for a 10 gallon (38L). Just want to confirm that this is an ok size for growing an Auto? Coming from 3 gallon in coco, will an auto have time to utilise a 10 gallon pot?

For seedlings start the in a lighter bit of soil..

When in coco i would start in a jiffy pellet, then go to a solo cup (with some seedling mix in this case) and then into the final pot. Would you recommend similar or cut out the solo cup part and go into final pot after jiffy?
