I do it by hand but with like a pressure watering can, makes it much easier but just doing it with a watering can is fine. A auto watering system would do the same thing but you gotta set it up any way. I prefer doing ti by hand, but its whatever works best for you

I run the handheld pressure bottle method up until the are taking more than 2 litres each to run off, then I set up my halos and run the lines to a reservoir outside the tent that has a pump in it, I then just fill a 20 litre bucket and mix nutrients into that before adding it to the reservoir and all i have to do is flip a switch and away she goes. Its more a convenience thing for me, and if one plant is throwing a deficiency i will block off that halo and feed by hand until its back to normal. Its biggest bonus is if i have to go away for a few days i can set up the timer to come on at specific times and it automates the whole thing.

I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.

I run an automated watering system - granted I also use soil with the setup so no nutes involved, but it is great for hands off growing and allows me to go off for a few days to a week without worrying about the girls going thirsty. That said, the hands off can also be a bit of a bummer as I do like to be involved in the growing process so I find myself going to the tent a couple times a day just to look at them as there is nothing to do ! 😀

In coco I have been hand watering till late veg and then switch to auto watering till chop. The auto watering system allows multiple feedings a day and that allows me to run lower EC if desired and I prefer to run as low as possible. Lower EC is easier for the plants to feed and it helps lots with harvest size and terpenes in my setup.

I understand the desire to care for them daily and even with auto watering running I still am in there daily dealing with runoff and looking for problems. In my busy season it is usually checked on every other day as my runoff trays are large enough to go for many days before overflowing. I hand watered for a couple years in the beginning but now the timers just free up my time and gives the plants a very regular cycle timing. I should add that auto watering isn’t a free lunch situation. The pump should be cleaned regularly as well as the irrigation rings and tubings. In an average grow I clean the auto watering system monthly and then extensively between grows.
