Sorry if this has been asked 1000 times before!
This will be my first time topping my autos so not 100% what I’m doing. I know to wait for the 5th node and chop at the 3rd but was wondering if it’s literally as soon as you start to see the leaves of that 5th node appearing?
I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m seeing on my two plants but just wanted to double check that I don’t need to wait a bit longer to give them the snip.
@ru25co I've topped both of my first wo autos right above the 3rd node and they didn't even seem to notice. Just kept on growing extra tops.
I will always tell you the truth, that's a promise
I will not, however, promise that you will like what I say.

@curmudgeon how far into pushing out the 5th node were they before you chopped them?
@ru25co Dunno, didn't enter into my equation. I've only chopped the first one and it was in a SCROG. The second still has quite a ways to go and is on node 6 or 7. There are 8 main colas now plus about a dozen lesser ones. All have 5 or more nodes. not even close to being done.

I’d wait until the 4th or 5th node to top your plants, but you need bigger leaves before you do. By the way, the second one looks like it’s showing some deficiency—they’re looking yellow. I wouldn’t top it until it turns back to a healthy green.
Also, how wet is your soil?
I'm new to this too, what's the advantage of waiting until the 5th node before topping?
@greenelf Waiting until the 4th or 5th node before topping your cannabis plants is beneficial because it ensures the plant is mature and strong enough to handle the stress. This timing promotes better recovery and encourages the growth of multiple colas, leading to a bushier plant with more bud sites, potentially increasing your yield. 🙄
Make sure the leaves are large enough before topping.
@happynpc damn - wish this had been a week earlier! I topped them and they seem to have recovered - everything is a learning process!
I wait for the top 1/2inches to dry out before watering again.
I’ll take some more pics this evening so you can see where they are at.
