TempleGrower's Seedsman Jack Herer and friends Grow Off!
Jan 8 - Another quick update to basically say no news is good news. The ladies are growing quite fast now that they have some serious solar panels. Pretty solid growth in the last 3 days. Looking at the length of the leaf stems, it looks like the Cookies Chill CBD will be leggier than the others, which is interesting... I would have thought the opposite based on her genetics (LA Confidential x GSC) x Seedsman CBD. Only time will tell though. One of the Jacks seems so have a wicked lean on her.. not sure why lol, but if that's what she wants to do then who am I to question. They aren't gaining much in height (at least relative to the new foliage production) so, I'll likely let them go a bit longer under the T5s and then probably transplant this weekend. I also gave them their first shot of liquid kelp yesterday as well so I'm sure they are loving that. Happy days.
I snapped a close-up of some algae that is growing on the surface of my Lemonchello Haze soil. This is due to the massive amount of Nitrogen that I have in this particular soil blend coupled with the relatively high humidity under the dome. Algae loves that shit. The plants don't seem to mind though.. the algae itself isn't bad per se, but it attracts fungus gnats whose larvae eat it, and other garbage like that so best to avoid it if you can. I'll be transplanting soon enough though so, the reduced humidity in the tent will help a lot to dry it out and stop new growth.
Then are some healthy looking girls there they are loving your soil
Jan 12 - Well the big day has come and gone...yesterday was transplant day! Everything went very well though - not much to say. The ladies are in their 3 gallon pots in the tent now enjoying the MH and LEDs. They seem very stoked about it. Before I put the root ball in their new holes, I added about a TBSP of worm castings, as well as this new stuff, Soil Booster Plus. The SB+ is supposed to add a ton of micro-nutrients, be beneficial for the microbes, and a load of other good stuff so, I thought I'd give it a shot. It's very local, and very economical (assuming it does what it says) so I'm pumped about that. I also watered them in with some more water + myccorhizae. The plants are all about 8-10cm tall, exactly 15 days from when the sprouts broke the soil surface. Perfect.
The tent is quite dry right now, and I didn't want to buy another humidifier/humidity controller/etc., so I am going to try putting a 5 gallon pail filled with water and a pump/airstone in to try and get some moisture in the air. I heard the idea on Twitter from someone in Calgary where it's equally as dry and cold so, figured I'd give it a shot. Pump arrives from Amazon tomorrow or Tuesday. Besides that though, the 4 smaller pots you see in the tent are some regular photos that I am experimenting with... they have some random seeds from my personal stock that I will be taking to a talk I am giving for a hands-on, show and tell - type of demo regarding "How to Grow Your Own 4 Cannabis Plants' in February. I may end up giving them away anyways so, I'm not really super concerned with them. I am really mostly interested in seeing how they do in the smaller pots - if they produce a good amount, I may run bunch of small pots - maybe 12 plants or something. We'll see. 😎
I also made a video regarding this transplanting business, if anyone feels like having a watch.
epic update man, thats how its done!
So nice n healthy!
Lookn good TG! So you have hard water, do you use it directly or filter / osmosis it? I've also got hard water and was going to try it straight up like my vodka. I'm using distilled for the babies but could get costly if I have to keep that up.
Jan 17 - Today was quite traumatic for the ladies - all but Jack Herer #1 were topped! They're all 20 days old, and at the 5th nodes now, so it was time. I opted to hold off on the Jack #1 because, as I mentioned before, she has a very wonky stem (kinda figured out why - see the pic), and I wanted to wait until she straightens out a bit and gets some more girth before I mess around too much (she's the smallest out of the 6 so far as well so). The 2 Jacks are definitely more compact than the OG Cheeses, Lemonchello Haze or the Cookies Chill CBD, but I don't know if I'd say smaller, per se... they have just as much foliage but stayed much more dense. But health-wise, everyone is doing very well. I upped the MH to 600W now as the ladies are nice and settled and will be able to take the full power of the HID, as well as it well help me a lot in keeping my temperatures where they should be. I also gave the ladies a good watering with some kelp juice+molasses mixed in, hopefully they and the microbes enjoy that.
So far I am not seeing very many fungus gnats, maybe a couple here or there but, maybe freezing my soil rock solid and leaving it out in -30 was enough to eradicate most of the baddies. No thrips yet either (EVERYONE KNOCK ON WOOD), but I still have some mites in there patrolling like little Terminators so, hopefully they'll get em if there are any. Nematodes will go in next week as well for any soil-based bastardos. I do have some Botaniguard, which is supposed to be some of the best preventative insecticide on the market, but I think I am going to hold off on using for the time being as I am not too sure if would harm my poor mites, and I am not seeing any problems...yet. It's a very cool product tho - the active ingredient is Beauveria bassiana, which is a soil-dwelling fungus that parasitizes and basically eats from the inside-out lots different types of insects, including many of the pests us canna-growers deal with. PLUS, it's one of the few insecticides that Health Canada approves for use on the commercial ganja that all the Suits & Bros are growing. They're quite strict (HC) so, take from that what you will, lol. Anyways, that's what's going on in my world. Thanks for reading!
Badazz OG Cheese
Jan 20 - Oh man, I am loving these plants. The Jacks (and the others as well) are all about 13cm tall now, and growing fast. I took a couple of the bigger fan leaves off of the Jacks today to open up the under-story a bit and WHAT A SMELL. Wow. Super skunky, spicy - hints of exactly how I remember her. I am super pumped on this preliminary terpene profile.. and there isn't even any resin yet! Awesome. Bravo Seedsman. I did top the other Jack yesterday as well (Jan 19) so all 6 have now been topped one time. The other ladies are already starting to push their side branches out more now so, that is a good sign.
I do have a the slight magnesium deficiency (IMO) in my Cookies Chill CBD, as well as juuust starting in my Badazz OG Cheeses so, I will be watering in some dolomitic lime over the next few irrigations to correct for it. Kinda hard to see in the pic but, the interveinal parts of the leaves are starting to show a very subtle lightening/yellowing, starting from the center and moving towards the veins. I debated just buying some CalMag and doing a foliar spray but, I already have the DoloLime, and I'm cheap so, 😀. Should be fine tho. The soil was potentially a bit depleted as I diluted it with a load more non-fortified potting soil so try and cool down the N hotness before planting. No biggie though. I seem to be using approximately 6-7L of water every 2-3 days now, which is about normal in my experience. My humidity has also improved (up to about 30% now!) as it has warmed up a bit here weather-wise, and the plants being bigger are also transpiring more now, which really helps to add to the ambient tent humidity. I don't have my exhaust fan running currently as I have a slight constant negative pressure which draws air passively out of the tent, albeit not very strongly but, it's helpful to manage the humidity for now. When the plants get a big older/bigger, I'll turn it on as they will be needing fresher air more often.
And my most exciting news, the nematodes are in! Dosed the pots yesterday so hopefully they will eat the shit out of the fungus gnats larvae and whatever else might be lurking in those subterranean reaches..
That's all for today so, thanks for reading!
Nematodes aka Hunter/Killers
Cookies Chill CBD (slight Mg deficiency)
Heyo TG, Jacks looking jacked 🙂 . I see what you mean, little bushes, I have my lights set a little high perhaps, didn't want to freak em out...24"
Jan 26 - Everything seems to be going well. Plants are still growing so, all there is do now is wait. As the plants are getting larger, they're transpiring (exhaling) more, so the humidity in my tent is going up.. which is awesome. By the time I flip, it should be just perfect. The Mg deficiency seems to be lessening too since I watered some Epsom salts in (that's what I meant when I said DoloLime in the last entry. I used about 2 tsp/gal (4L) of water.) Not a heck of a lot to report though - no news is good news at this point, as they say. Watered on the 25th with a good dose of kelp (I do this once per week), as well as dosed the ladies with some more nematodes tonight, hopefully they'll catch what's left of the FGs off guard. I have to say the 2 Badazz OG Cheeses, the Lemonchello Haze and The Cookies Chill CBD are much larger than the two Jacks in the middle thus far - same amount of foliage but much stretchier. Could be something to do with the 2 LEDs I have hanging above them - the Jacks are directly under the MH and so aren't getting much of the LED spread. My lux meter shows me that the overall light output is constant above every plant though so, maybe it's the type of light affecting the growth differently. Or maybe it's just the way the plant is and I'm over-complicating things. Occam's razor and all that... 😀 Lots of excellent side branching tho, canopies are evening out nicely. Should be looking at some nice ganja spires in a few months.. 🤪
Mg deficiency lessening
And here's a neat little video I made... enjoy!
The temple of green 🙏👀🌱
Looking great brother
Jan 29 - Damn, I forgot how fast these bastards grow when they really get growing! 3 days and some pretty substantial movement! Love it. Maybe it's that EPSI.. those microbes are just crushing it in there I guess 😀. Not much to say other than performed some minor defoliation in on the lower reaches of the ladies to open up airflow and make it easier for me to see what I'm doing. The Jacks are staying much squatter than the other plants, the Badazz OG Cheeses especially (If you watch the video and you can see the relative heights pretty easily). They are going to be tall plants I think. I've bent the stems over (didn't break them, just bent a lot) to try and even out the canopy a bit. The Cookies Chill CBD will also be topped again this weekend most likely. I am going to try and keep the cuttings from them, as well as one from one of the Jacks, and do something with them at a later date, nut I need some supplies from the grow store before I do that. Gave them all a shot of molasses today as well, maybe about 1 TBSP in 4L of water. Little bit of a treat for the micro-beasties in there to munch on and get strong and powerful, just like me. 🤭
In other news, I've spotted a pre-flower on one of the Jacks! Not nearly as exciting as when growing regs but, it's definitely a girl! Looking closer, the majority of the other ladies also have spit out a few pistils as well so, booya grandma. Booya. Also had a bit of an accident - stupid fan knocked the stupid sticky trap off it's stupid hanger and on to the top of my Lemonchello Haze. Luckily damage was minimal, but man these things make me mad. I always lean into them and they get stuck to my hair... piss me off.
Anyways, signing off! Thanks for checking out the grow!
Some real sticky-icky (trap)
Tour of the Temple - Day 33
Feb 2/3 (Day 36/37) - Figure I should do a quick update while it's in my mind here - keep forgetting. Everything is looking really great. No problems with nutes or bugs or anything so far, know on wood. I actually found a little stowaway baby lady bug, so that's a good sign if I've ever seen one. The canopy is evening out nicely now too - I raised my lights about 6" (15cm) on a couple days back as they were getting a bit close. The tallest plants (Badazz OG Cheeses) are about 12" (30cm) tall now, with the others not far behind. I will likely be flipping to flower by the end of this week/this weekend, depending on how I feel in a few days. I also watered in some more mycorrhizae on Jan 31 to really get the mojo going. Just weekly kelp juice and the occasional shot of EPSI from now until harvest. Looking at around mid April I'd wager... 🙂
The Temple (Day 36)
Jacks (Day 36)
The Little Hemperor
The Cookies Chill CBD was getting kinda long in her two main growth stems, so I cut em off and tossed them in some jiffy pellets. Gonna make me some clones! I also took a cutting off Jack#2, one off Lemonchello Haze, and 2 off the Badazz OG Cheese. Not really sure what I'm gonna do with em (maybe give away, maybe not) but, I need to practice my cloning so, seemed like a good opportunity. I didn't use any rooting hormones (couldn't find my bottle, and I'd rather not if I can help it anyways) so, I cut some of my aloe vera plant and squeezed the gooey juice in the water and irrigated them with that. See how it goes. They're not dead yet, as of today... so far so good, lol.
Feb 4 (Day 39) - Did some reasonably heavy defoliation last night - probably the last big one before the flip which will likely happen this weekend. I took off most of the bottom fan leaves that weren't getting much light and getting in the way of airflow, as well as any little 'larf-bud' stems growing in the under-story. Ain't nobody got time for that shit. I just want those big, huge, juicy, frosty, sticky, sparkly, smelly, phat, delicious colas. But I mainly just wanted to post a pic of this Jack Herer - she is just fucking beautiful. Such nice form.. I dunno - it just looks...satisfying or something. Maybe it's the symmetry... 🧐
JACKing on (Day 39)
The Jacks are looking nice so do the rest
