Grow tents are the way to grow cannabis indoors. They are used by most growers as they provide a space that is easy to control. One of the most common grow tents you will find for percy growers, is the 1m x 1m x 2m grow tent. This tent can easily fit 4 medium sized plants, and bring you a decent yield.

Most cannabis users can grow their own supply in a grow tent of this size, and it doesn't take up a lot of space. Because of this, these tents come highly recommended for growers of all levels.

What Lights to Use

There is a huge range of options available to you when choosing lighting for growing cannabis. What you buy, will depend on your budget, and the ambient temperatures you will be growing in. For example, if it is summer time, or you live in hot climates, consider growing with LED lights. If you're in a colder season, or live in colder climates, maybe a HID light would be your best choice.

HID Lighting for a 1m tent

Because of the small floor space young plants will take up, it is a good idea to start off using smaller bulbs, and make your way up to the 600 HPS. The recommended lighting would be;

• 250w MH For Early Veg
• 400w MH for Late Veg, and first week of flower
• 600w HPS for Flowering

Using smaller bulbs will reduce electricity costs, and also prevent too much heat building up in your grow room. The problem with HID lighting is it releases a lot of heat and uses up a lot of power. But they are a cheap, and an effective form of grow lighting. Most new growers will start out using HID, purely because of the price difference between these and LEDs.

Make sure if you're buying HID lighting for your 1m grow tent, to buy a digital dimmable ballast with it. This will give you the ability to dim the power coming from the ballast, so you can run lower powered bulbs.

Reflectors, and Hoods

HID bulbs will burn very hot, and create a lot of excess heat in the grow room. You can use cooling tubes, or cooling hoods linked up to your extractor to reduce this issue. But, the light will have to go through an extra layer of glass before it gets to your plants. This is said to reduce the amount of lumens your plant receives.

To get the best spread of light across your 1m x 1m grow tent, you should use a reflector. For best results, you should purchase a parabolic shade. This will disperse heat better, and also spread the light across more of the canopy.

LED Lighting for a 1m x1m Grow Space

When choosing an LED grow light for your grow room, things can get a little more complicated. LED lighting is good, but there are alot of brands that do not meet the mark. A lot of growers do not like growing with LED's because they have used cheap models in the past and got poor results.

How many Watts you need for a 1m x 1m Grow Tent

Each type of lighting, from each company, will have different specifications. This makes it difficult to choose which light is going to work best for you. You can figure out how much light you need in your grow space by following this calculation:

If using HID Lighting:

• You need at least 50w of light for every square foot of grow space
• 1m is close to 3.3 ft, so, 3.3 x 3.3 is, 10.89
• That is 10.89 square feet, that needs at least 50w each
• Leaving you with 544.5w needed to grow in your space

So, as you can see, for 1m x 1m x 2m Grow Tents, between 500 and 600w is ideal. A 1m grow tent is very popular amongst growers, and because a tent this size needs 550w, you will find most growers will use a 600 HID lighting in this space.

If you are going to grow with LED, then you will not need as much wattage. You can use the same calculation, but you only need around 30-35w per square foot.

• 35w of light for every square foot of grow space
• 1m is close to 3.3 ft, so, 3.3 x 3.3 is, 10.89
• That is 10.89 square feet, that needs at least 35w each
• Leaving you with 381 w needed to grow in your space

Look for an LED model that can offer this amount of light. What is also important to consider when buying LED lights, is the "PAR". Which needs a whole article of its own.

Extraction

Grow room ventilation is often an overlooked aspect of growing indoors. Giving your plants a good clean supply of fresh air will help them grow strong and healthy. For each size grow space, you will need a different size extractor.

In a 1m x 1m x 2m grow tent, a 5 inch extractor is the standard, with some growers going up to 6 inch if running HID lighting during summer months.

This extractor is plenty to refresh the air in your grow room between 20 and 30 times every hour. With added active intake, or using a 6" extractor instead, you will have full control of your grow room environment.

Carbon Filter and Ducting

Along with the five or six inch extractor, you will of course, need a carbon filter. Covering the smell of your grow is vital to staying undetected.

It is rule number three, and must not be broken. Do not cut corners, and do not buy cheap! Your security depends on it.

You will also need 5" ducting, and some clips to attach it to the filter and extractor. Once this is linked up, you can be certain, you will have no smell escaping out of your grow room.

Additional Equipment you need for a grow room.

Like any other grow room, you will need some fans to keep the air circulating, and you will also need a hygrometer. Keeping track of the temperature and humidity is important. You need good reliable equipment to give you accurate readings.

You will also need a timer, to control when your lights will turn on and off. Use a heavy duty timer, not a standard one. Ensuring the timer can put up with the power going through it, will reduce the risk of fire, or equipment breaking down.

Invest as much as you can on safety, and good equipment, you can't put a price on peace of mind.

How many Plants to Grow in a 1m x 1m Tent

To put it simply, four. But other things can be taken into consideration. If this is your only grow space, and you intend to grow some plants for their full life cycle in here, then four is perfect.

With about four or five weeks veg, and some LST, you should fill that tent come harvest time and yield between 16 and 20 Oz. You could also reduce the number of plants down to two, and give them a couple more weeks of veg time, and you will still yield with the same results.

If you have another grow space, and this is to be your vegging tent, then you can veg 6-8 plants in here for the first four weeks of their lives. They will soon run out of room after this, as growth speeds up.

This is pretty much everything you need for 1m x 1m x 2m Grow Tents. Anything else will be added depending on your grow situation. Things like ambient temperatures, time of year, risk of mould, or bugs, will all make a difference on what you should have in your grow room.
