Hey guys, apologies ahead of time for the novel, but I need some advice on my potential setup.
I've pulled the trigger on an ac infinity grow kit but have hit the pause button before shipping in order to choose the right tent. Ideally I'd like to grab a setup that facilitates a smoking habit of around 40 grams per month. As I'm in an unfriendly environment legally, I was tossing up whether to pack a tent and do a once a year grow which adds stress of success and limited room for errors, more work and harsher penalties if caught etc.. or a perpetual grow which increases odds of being caught with a plant but takes the pressure off the success of my yield and accommodate my inevitable mistakes along the way.
Ideally I'd run a perpetual grow cycle of just 1 plant flowering at a time (but i want to future proof and have the ability to pack the space and run up to 4 if desired..... or the law changes).
I have my eye on a 2in1 (photos attached) which is 5x5 in total with 4x4 flowering space and 1x1 propogation/veg space. Ideally I'd have a 4x4 for flowering and a smaller tent for veg but I'm trying to do it whilst having a smaller footprint space wise and if this will suffice then id be fine.
The remainder of my setup was the 6inch fan with carbon filter and an ac infinity evo6 500w led light for the flowering space. I'm wondering what kind of light would suffice for the second chamber and thought these supplemental 45w bar lights could work. Is that enough power to both propogate seeds and veg a plant before moving to the flowering space.
I'm also concerned with light leak and if anyone has experience using these 2 in 1s before? It seems the space divider is not built in so is velcrod in. I've seen people use reflective tape to double seal it especially around the framing bars but this seems a little sketchy. Appreciate any feedback guys, I'm getting excited now lol.
@kiwigrower Hi mate, first of all if you are growing your own you will end up using a lot more than 40g per month.
Investing your time and effort only in one plant, as a beginner grower, is risky. If things go bad you will end up with no herb. 4-5 plants can easily be grown in a 4x4, so if you get unlucky with one or two of them you will still have something to harvest. Gradually, getting more experienced you can pull out some serious yield from a 4x4 tent.
500w of led is adequate for a 4x4
6 inch fan is more than adequate for a 4x4, i am using a 5 inch for mine. You will need one more smaller fan, probably a 4 inch one with a carbon filter, for the clone-veg space.
2x45w bars will be adequate for cloning-germinating and getting your plants to a foot high. Most of the vegging will be done in the 4x4 space when you transplant in the final pots.

@mitsos thanks for the reply. Sounds like it's best to perhaps wait until I have a bit of experience under my belt before attempting solo runs.
Good to know the 45w light bars will suffice. Thought I could grab a duct splitter to give me the ability to push and pull air out of both spaces with the one fan. Was hoping by going with the six inch fan I'd have enough grunt to manage that.

@kiwigrower one thing to consider is what are you mainly planning to grow: Autos or Photos. you don't need a Veg tent for autos only if you always want to keep some photoperiod mother plants. I also really like the split tent because it looks super convenient but do you really need it? i would rather buy the same size tent without the small side tent. you can always buy a separate mother tent later on.

I was thinking of starting with photos. As I'm aiming to get the best yield out of a smaller plant count, I was thinking I'll need to have the time to learn how to best train and pack out the space until I know what I'm doing.
The interest in the 2 in 1 was more about the convenience of not needing to get another tent, fan etc.. But if it makes things unnecessarily complicated, perhaps it would be better to simply grab the 4x4 and a second tent down the line.

That's not what i meant 🙂 the most important thing is that you are happy with what you got. The question is if you really need that extra "tent". What are the pros and cons. Just a thing to consider. But maybe someone else will give you their insight👍🏻

Hey why not 2 smaller tents?? I grow for myself and grow perpetually and i’m in a 100% illegal state. @mitsos nailed it. You will smoke more than 40g a month when growing your own.
I run a 2x2 tent for veg and a 2.5 x 2.5 for flower and they’re right next to each other. I will usually pop beans for my next grow once i’m at 5 weeks of flowering. By the time my 1st grow is finishing up, I’ll use the smaller veg tent to dry and move the new batch to the bigger flowering tent. I usually grow 4 plants at a time but currently have 5 going in my flower and it’s a bit crowded

@Kiwigrower I’ve got a 600x900 perpetual tent and have all the bits and pieces to have it all running. I’ve grown outdoors for a bit and had enough confidence in my ability to start in a tent. Ooooohhhh nooooo. This shit is not easy. As to date I’ve never used it as a perpetual grow. I’ve separated the two areas .6x.6 and .6x.3. Yes I used a roll of silver tape to seal them off from each other 99% affective. I grow in the .6x.6 and dry in the .3x.6.
