When I restarted I switched to a led set up.

im sure it was here when I joined someone mentioned ; make sure you have lots of Cali mag as led love it. Or words to the equivalent.

Does led lighting really require you to add more calcium than a hps?

LED lights can be more intense than the standard HPS lights. Not sure of the science behind it, but I think because more intense light hits the leaves, they need more magnesium as that a big part of chlorophyll.

Ok that makes total sense in relation to what I’m seeing since switching to led.

 Thanks

@mix make sure the light isn't too close too mate..... they might not give off a lot of heat, but if they are too close they can bleach the leaves by damaging the chlorophyll too. SO always follow what the manufacturer says there, which is usually at least 18 inches from the top of the plants Smile

I’ll recheck tomorrow.

I must admit I was confused perplexed and some what annoyed since changing over.

The first grow after I had what looked like a Cali mag deficiency. I thought ok Its been ages since using guano it’s very high in p I probably need to get used to it again.

I must of locked the ferts out.

so this time I used 1 5th of the amount & i have the same issue.

So i was very much thinking this is new my waters very hard what’s the heck’s going on.

the light being too close might well also explain the praying ( vertical) shape of the heavy fan leaves

@mix hey Mix I saw something similar when I first started using LEDs as well, as @macky says the light distance is really important, and Cal mag can be needed more. But I also found raising the temps in the grow room made a big difference, took about a week to correct itself. What pH is your water btw? 🤛

Pick it, pack it, fire it up, come along and take a hit from the bong 🤪

Could you expand more about the temperature ,ie from what to what thanks

I have heard that with the best led lights giving more than the necessary par that plants require will necessitate a higher level of nutrition ... in order to achieve this co2 and temps also need to be higher to keep everything on balance ..

Apparently temps with these leds should be taken off the upper leaf surface not ambient and apparently this temp will be a couple of degrees Celsius lower than the ambient.
I’m not able to explain this as it’s stretching my brain a little but basically what I do understand by it is that if you run led your temps should be 2 centigrade higher than what you’d like to see when running hps.
So 30c with led is like 28 with hps!

hope this does this make sense ?

asa result certain nutrients may be needed in higher supply

ie mag and / cal

I have found this also though it does seem strain specific a little too and depends how strong your soil / feeding regime is

Time to pop some more beans 😗

@dobbin Hey Dobbin, Chilbert hit the nail on the head with his reply. From my personal experience I used to run my HPS rooms around 20-21°c and 17-18°c lights off, I maintained this with an oil filled radiator on a thermostat. When I switched to LEDs my plants started having problems, growth was slow, the girls looked sick and the leaves were always droopy. The Coco/soil mix I used was staying damp for ages as the plants just weren't using any of the moisture up. I upped my temps to 25-28°c lights on and 20°c minimum lights off. Within a week the plants started to cheer up and things improved. I didn't change anything else, I maintained my water at 6.5 and that was it mate. Hope that helps👍

Pick it, pack it, fire it up, come along and take a hit from the bong 🤪

I’ve herd about that 2 degree difference before on a thread ( on another site ) were the guy had the same problem trouble was the thread didn’t stay on topic rather it got hi jacked by folks with argumentative agendas & i dismissed it. Thinking he’s got a Cali mag problem what on earth are you doing getting him to fry his plants as if that would solve his problem.

now am glad I didn’t get involved as it very much looks like that part was correct. Really hard to work out what’s a load of bx & what’s good info on some sites were they are almost more interested in one upping each other than much else.

with at tad of non hijacked  info I easily can understand what is being said by the temp raise.

chillbert you made it easy to understand.

it’s night time for the plants so I don’t really want to check temps now I’ll check it when I get up.

It’s to late to start adding Cali mag now as there’s only 9 days left I just wanted to figure this one  out as it’s hurt my yield & I definitely wanted to know what was what before putting the next lot in waiting into flower.

Oh yeah my ph is 6.5 also use nothing that’s not organic so I don’t really bother checking it much.

Thanks
