pH strips right or wrong?

Hey All 🙂
So with my pH meter on it's way back to Amazon, I got this kit today to get Eve's water right asap -and it has multiple top reviews.
Meant to cover 0-14 pH, but only 4 colour blocks on the strips....and the test card is marked off 0 - 8. Odd?
I tested a strip and all of the colours changed on the test strip...which doesn't seem right to me? Can anyone give some advice please?
Here's a pic of the test card and the strip on the right is the one I dipped.
Is this yet another waste of my money?

I once tested these strips and they are not accurate enough for growing in coco so I invested in a good meter. Those strips might tell you that you are between 6 and 7 but not much more. My daughter is a Chemical Engineer and she said there are more accurate strips out there and in addition to those strips you need a tighter accuracy strip set that only measures from ph 7 to 6 and theses are harder to get. I have most of a pack left sitting on a shelf.

@monkeydo If you can share a link to the accurate test strips I'd sure appreciate it, as I can't afford a good pH meter right now and have spent the last couple hours reading/reviewing test strips....seems very hit n miss...can't waste more money.

I wouldn’t go with strips, I’d use a gardening ph kit

General Hydroponics HGC722145

Problem is I don’t see it available in the UK.

When I tried to use the ph strips like you had my plants grew slowly and I kept fighting deficiencies. A proper meter is the best answer but I do understand the financial issues.

The more precise strips are also far more expensive. Here’s the ones she recommended but they cost almost as much as a meter.

Reading strips accurately isn’t easy and even these are plus/minus 0.3 ph. Not ideal for growing but if you aimed at 6.5 your plants would probably tolerate the feed well.

@monkeydo Thanks for that Monkey...have ordered some narrow spectrum liquid from Essentials that should be much more accurate...or at least keep Eve limping along 🙂

Quick add on---Eve is desperate for water, soil is bone dry and she's so limp all over...but her water wont be 24 hr rested until midnight.... will she last ok (if unhappily) till then...or should I give her some water now (even though 24 hrs not gone yet)? She'll be going lights off at 6pm-midnight. Thanks

I’d give her water. Always better to let it rest first but I’ve always watered my flower pots straight from the hose for many years without incident. You won’t kill your plant with fresh tap water but they like it a little better if it has rested.
