Morning all, I looked but couldn’t find this specific question. Do you pH your compost tea before, after, or not at all?

My water was 6.3 when I added compost, worm castings, molasses, and blood meal but rose to 7.7 after 2 days with air stones. The runoff measured at a pH of 6.7, so I’m not too concerned, but I don’t want to worry every time I use my teas. Thanks all. Happy growing!

I adjust the Ph just before I feed it, coco or soil, same for both.

@couxgrew I Ph everything i pour into the medium.  just because soil and the microbes can help buffer it doesnt mean i want the plants and microbes wasting energy doing so.

We put a lot of effort into growing nice healthy plants , to me it doesnt make sense to be lazy on that part.

Most issues ive personaly ran into have been from me being lazy and using un Ph;d water.  my tap can be from 7.4 - 8 ph

as for when to Ph i Ph just prior to use.

@twisted1 I wholeheartedly agree.

Several people on FB suggested that a healthy compost tea shouldn’t have the pH messed with so as not to stress/kill the microbes. The theory makes sense as I didn’t want to risk killing all my healthy microbes by dropping the pH of the water just before watering.

But it does make sense to ensure that the pH is correct as the health of the soil and plant are the most important

Thanks for the advice!

@couxgrew ive heard that before  and ive also heard from experts that microbes can exist in a wide range of Ph.

check out elaine ingham  and jeff lowenfels on you tube  they have some great videos on the soil food web and explain a lot.

in nature the water is not ph'd when it falls from the sky and we know it can vary greatly from acidic to basic ( picks up pollutants in the atmosphere)

but the life in the natural soil can mostly deal with this,  the soil we make or buy for container growing is not as microbial diverse as nature.

so i think its better to just make it right.  of course im no expert and this is my opinion but that is part of my reasoning   lol

check out some videos from the ones i mentioned above and see what you feel is best
