So I went ahead and starting using a new local soil. Daddy Pete’s Sea and Farm. The soil itself looks/feels amazing. Well. I transplanted my babies from solo cups to their final home yesterday and I cracked open the bag of Daddy Pete’s. The solo cups were FFOF soil that was clean. Well low and behold upon inspection this morning, there’s baby fungus gnats crawling thought out.
I’ve already begun a mosquito dunk but that’s going to take at least a day for that water to absorb the dunk. Should I just abort this grow and trash the babies and the soil. I do have a new bag of FFOF ready to go. I did check my flowering plants and no signs of those fuckers throughout(thank goodness)
The seedlings are about 3 weeks old on their 3rd node

@growdad I have fungus nats every grow I’ve done in the summer. I just treat them accordingly and there numbers dwindle down. no need in my opinion to scrap the grow unless you going for a completely sterile environment.

On the left side of the up close. I think you may be right about them being springtails. The bugs I have are strictly staying on the soil. They’re black slightly long and oval. Looks like 6 legs total. We’re headed to brunch now but i’ll get some better pics when we get home

These dont sound like springtails mate, and of course, these small bugs are hard ot see in pics so ididnt see any. The soil look very wet though, not a lot of drainage in that and itll cause problem i think. Anway, you got some some sticky traps? They would work.
Check this guide out mate, it might help

I’ve put a sticky trap in to catch one. I’ve dealt with fungus gnats before but i’ve never had them or any bugs for that matter in a bag of soil. This was a brand new bag of soil and plants were transplanted yesterday so it’s going to be wet.

@backblast Wouldn’t thrips be on the vegetation? I didn’t see any crawling on the plants, they seem to really like the soil. I’ve added some decaying leaves from my flowering plants to the soil to see if it attracts them.
