Hi folks, I am nearing the end of my second grow, and happy to say looking much better than the first one! Trying to be patient before harvesting! But, I have started to think about the soil I used this round, and my ability to reuse it. I have been using organic liquid nutes. Can I just plant new seedlings into the "old" soil, or do I need to flush it out a bit before new planting?
Thanks for the help!
@willied Is this grow indoor or outdoors mate?

@willied Yes you can. i reuse most of my soil. ill either remove most of the roots and stem and put the soil in my soil barrel to be re amended. or cut the main stem out of the pot so i can replant in same pot. if i use bottled nutrients (organic or not) i will flush the pot out good to ensure i dont have an imbalance of left over nutes from the previous grow. then ill plant back into it and continue using the nutrient manufactures recommended schedule at 1/2 strength and adjust as the plant needs.

@willied Glad you asked. YES you can re-use your soil, and in fact you can get better results after the first use or two in the same pot without re-mixing it or taking it out. The reason for this is that mycorrhizae build networks in your soil that feed your plants. If you dig it up or dump out he old soil, you destroy those networks. Instead, cut and leave your old roots and do a soil test to determine what nutrition you have in your soil and what/if you need to amend with. Once you know, you simply top-dress and water-in the missing nutrients. Although we don't push commercial products here, I am very partial to the KIS Organics nutrient packs, and the Tad Hussey, the owner, has been a guest on the podcast a few times. Even a really good compost and castings can take core of your needs. You just need to do the soil test, and they can be tedious and take a while. This is MUCH better than wasting all that soil.

@im_sparky Thanks for the response! I will try what you suggested. How do I do a soil test? Is there a kit or something I can get?
@willied Yes, you can usually pick up a soil test at your local bogbox store or nursery for $8-12 for a package of a few tests. They are tedious and take some time (like 30-45 mins by the time it is all done). Bon chance!
