My first indoor grow with autos in soil has been a challenge, adventure and a learning experience. I was ill prepared and had a rough time with mold gnats and PH. I seem to be on top of things now and my little girls are showing good signs of at least some level of health. However because of the set in stone timeline of autos I am beginning to suspect that photos would be a better fit for a novice. My reasoning being that photos can be kept in veg as long as needed to grow a healthy plant that has matured to the point they have the infrastructure to produce quality colas. Any thoughts on this plan for my second indoor grow?
I started with auto's and they teach you a lot real quick. lol I like them because you pop a bean, up it in your medium, set the light to 18/6 and just add water. Yes you do have to move quickly and they will teach you quickly but it can be done. Now Photo's are just as nice and are more controllable if that's more your style. So both are fine and work equally as well, so it's personally preference at this point. But I haven't done an auto in a while so it's about time. Thanks for the idea!!
Agreed, photo period plants let you recover from any mistake and then trigger flowering on your schedule. I only recommend autos for new growers that need a fast turnaround or don’t have a light tight grow space. If you don’t get the first 3 weeks of an autos life correct the yield can suffer greatly.

@southsilly I will soon be moving out in the country where my wife and I own a few acres of land in a very secluded area. I want to continue indoor grows but I also want to take advantage of the secluded nature of our property with a outside grow as well.
@homegrownhog that sounds great man... I grew up in the country, cant wait to get back.
if you have space, both is an option!
I have a 2x4 Marshydro and a marshydro LED light that I am yet to get any info on it. I got the tent and the light as well as ventilation and air filtration from a friend who upscaled to a greenhouse growing payote.
@homegrownhog Sounds like a plan man, so I guess your growing both now.
I'm going to have to say photos for learning, as a few have mentioned autos are great as far as a quick run goes but give you zero recovery time in the event something goes sideways. I find the best way to learn is to run a photo period plant and learn the plants process and how she progresses through the stages of growth, then when you are more confident move in and have a play with autos. I'm in no way saying you cant start with autos as many have and achieved very nice results but you need to be on the ball with them and when they go bad its a lot harder to bring back and they inevitably suffer reduced yield or larfy buds develop etc. Either way you choose start up a diary and we can help you through it
I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.
