I’ve seen many cultivars with hollow stems and that usually doesn’t cause any problems in my grows. Although I’ve asked several other growers, nobody has given me any specific answer as to why you sometime end up with hollow stems other than it was natural for that plant to have them. 

@kukuriq I hate these problems where you end up chopping down your plants. I had lots of problems with my last grow which I overcame. That's why I love Coco, but then again you wouldn't want to go away during a Coco grow unless you had an automated irrigation system set up.

In fact my last grow I accidentally chopped off half my crop just because I didn't buy a decent range of shear sizes and used this massive garden one. I feel for you losing 1/2 my crop that way and know how devastating it can feel to yourself. It's almost like losing a loved pet feels.

I was talking with an old grower from the 80's, and his main bitch was the little caterpillars that either, laid egges in the stem, or somehow ate it out and it destorys the stem from the inside out. This is from the mid-west. I saw a little sob on my plant the other day and thought about that. I have no other information other than that. 

If mine starts dying I'll let you know. But I haven't experienced anything like that, in my short time of growing outdoors. A lot of bugs but no deadly caterpillars like he spoke of.

actually it seems I loose 2/3 of the cropmor maybe the whole harvest goes to the bin. As they are in one flowerbed they might be all infected. As I found some grey branches on LA Vanilla Cake I chop her as well. 
It is a hard lesson…

If I can I’ll set up an indoor grow to compensate my loss. 

I vote for organic soil, even with its difficulties and that you can’t control everything.
I try to move away from bottled stuffs, even if this year I did buy biotabs products, but that’s the brand closest to my concept of growing. Normally I brew KNF inputs and now I am quite interested in Living soil. 

@kukuriq yep, whatever suits you is best. I grow in Coco as I am out of work and have time to look at the plants all day long. I grow indoors too. It will also give me a hobby to take my mind off my slow alcohol and benzo detox before I get a yeild that will hopefully work more as well.

After some reading and additional comments, I’m siding with the folks that think caterpillars. I have Ed Rosenthals garden saver E book. He goes into a little bit of dicussion around caterpillars and mentions “corn borers”. He also mentions mitigation steps. Too much for me to try and repeat.
