  • (1st) Drilled 5/8 holes in 5gallon buckets then I cut out bottom with jigsaw..(2nd) Dug two holes to put buckets in 2” from top. (3rd) A few inchs of shredded paper ins buckets then some green vegetable and fruit scraps with worms layered in between. (4th) Took notice of print on buckets and tried not to fall in as image displayed. (5th) Used bottom of buckets to use as a makeshift cover to shade worms until I make some wooden tops then provided filtered water to compost around buckets. If this works out I will then apply this to the 2nd compost bin.

Has anybody done something similar. It would be nice to receive input on this if you have done something like this  .

I’ve seen a guy on YouTube do something similar but not in a compost bin. He would use an old plastic cat litter container (plastic tidy cat brand) and drill holes in the tub and plant the thing in his vegetable garden so it was almost flush with the soil. He would throw food scrap in there and close the lid and apparently the worms come find the food, eat what they want and then leave to service the garden plot. His claim was that it will increase the earthworm population in the area. I’ve been tempted to try it but I’ve not put out the effort yet.

I'd put a lid on it so the birds don't have a FREE worm Buffet. 😲

are thriving and multiplying and they are moving back-and-forth to compost pile and to the worm tower. It is do so well that I added another geobin to the garden . This project may differ from other regions because of geographic locations . I also have been breaking down leafs and other brown & green material using a weed wacker and large 20-25gal plastic pot .

Here is a photo of the 2nd Geobin in a different location . It has a few hours more shade for the summer time that way it won’t get to overheated for the worms.
