Many of you might know that I really enjoy growing ornamental flowers in the garden. Enjoying a bowl in a blooming garden is an experience everyone should enjoy occasionally. Something about the birds singing and the butterflies and moths fluttering around the blooms that is so serene and just peaceful. This year I decided to grow an annual that’s commonly grown around here but I’ve never planted any. It’s Celosia and I’m told it’s great for bees, butterflies, and birds. They were planted early in a tent because I had some extra space and were moved outside a few weeks ago. They are in containers of organic soil fortified with one year old compost which included blood and bone meal (fully composted now). No salts, no pesticides, only lactobacillus in the soil. The plants are loving life and starting to set flowers but every morning I wake up to this, wether it has rained or not…
This isn’t wilt, the stems are bending at night and straightening by day! By midday they are standing straight and proud again. This one has me a bit puzzled atm. Perhaps another green thumb out there has some insight. I’ve also used this same compost on the Mexican Sunflowers this year and they are loving it, no issues what so ever and they are growing a foot a week right now lol. You never know what talent lies out in Percy’s, any theories out there?

Your not giving them whiskey at bed time are you.lol Dont think iv heard of plants doing that before. Does it get cold at night or not too bad

If you can't say it with flowers Then don't say anything
Does it get cold at night or not too bad
Lol, no it’s definitely not cold at night. I think it was 76f last night (24c) and 90f during the day (32c). I’ve only ever seen plants twist like this when exposed to herbicide like 2-4-D but they fully recover every day. No visible bug damage or burning. All I can think of is very fast and inconsistent stem growth without light influence. Doesn’t make sense. At least it’s not my weed 😉.

So to add to this puzzle I took pictures just before dark yesterday and again this morning. I also decided to water them thoroughly last night (in the dark) to rule out drought stress.
Last Night
This Morning 6:30am
Oddly there was one plant, just one, that looked the same from evening to morning but as far as I know there was nothing different about this plant
Maybe this is something that these will grow out of eventually but we are still at a loss for an explanation.

Problem apparently solved!!
This is a picture of the flowers at 8am today
Was noticing that when the plants were twisting that there was lots of water droplets around the edges of most leaves, even with no rain or dew overnight. Decided to reduce the moisture in the pots and SUCCESS. Apparently these prefer drier conditions and the excess water was the issue. Notes made if I ever try growing these again.

Ever since we spoke with Chris Trump I have been adding JMS to my plants, outdoors and indoors too. It is really amazing how most plants react to this stuff. The day after everything is praying and I mean everything!
These pineapple plants were very ho-hum from winter but they weren’t exactly thriving or dying, just more or less doing very little. One application of JMS and they all stood at attention, greened up nicely, and started acting very happy. Wish I had taken a before pic so you could see the differences. The one in the far back is a top just getting started. They ones from the market usually root about 75% of the time for me.
Our hibiscus also love this. This morning after applying yesterday all the upper leaves were praying so hard they were vertical.
This little lemon tree is even pointing its leaves to the sky.
I’m not ready to toss out all my old gardening tricks just yet but I’ll add this one to the toolkit.

@monkeydo, I've been having the same results with the Jadam or JMS, whatever. I've had very good results with it cause the plants love it. I've read that you can use it for each watering but I'm keeping it at a weekly thing. Going to try the Lac-Bac or whatever it's called next. But the Korean farming tech is pretty interesting and very successful. Oh look, another rabbit hole. 🖐️ A little bird told me there's Sprout JMS too, mind boggling.
So my jungle deck is complete! These grew taller than advertised (as usual) once they decided to stop the twisting around game. That behavior hasn’t returned.
Good thing the Mexican sunflower plants are huge will top out over these so we can see them too. Hummingbirds seem to especially like these. They sample the entire center one section at a time and move to the next. We haven’t had many butterflies this year but they usually love these too. Maybe we’ll get a fall migration or something but those are usually pretty beat up looking that late in the year. The real beauties usually come early spring.
And the hibiscus are loving the heat as long as I keep them wet.
Was thinking just the other day, I’ve never not had a hibiscus plant since I got married. It’s the one plant we have always had at least one of the entire time. Like cannabis, I’d feel odd without one around to take care of. The bad thing on these is when they get this size in a pot they require daily maintenance so it makes extended times away in the hot summer more difficult. Could use bigger pots but they need to be somewhat mobile in case of a severe winter. Was thinking blumats might be an answer to this 🤔. Have to consider this further.
