- @chillbert I’ve yet to try the dry ice method. Are the yields and quality comparable to ice water, just the aforementioned advantages and disadvantage being the difference?
Quality looks better but time will tell once i smoke some ... no green at all with the dry ice and I’d say the yields are better but can’t conclude that just yet

@stootie much easier and quicker using dry ice, just pricier on the downside, but worth it imo if you’ve enough trim etc to process !
Would also say 80-140 ish microns is the sweet spot for extraction as far as using the bags.

Lebanese heirloom from Real Seed Company at 9wks of 12/12. One branch used fresh frozen (see previous) and the rest will be dried and then sieved using the screens
above: 20 seconds worth of shaking through a 180 micron bag for a fuller spectrum and little impurities.
below: the used bud and trim is left very broken up by the dry ice.
Using a slotted spoon to help retrieve and separate dry ice for reuse from used material (a bigger and better way of separating these like colander would work better btw)
A good technique is to shake the bag or agitate gently and for around 20 seconds to keep quality high. I noticed if dry ice left in bag for too long the seams of the bag can break as they become frozen brittle. A min max then empty mix back into a bowl or other bag before continuing.

So here an update / summary of where I’m at with the hash ...
So I’ve just over 2 oz so far (61g ish ) from 700g of plant matter used so far.
That’s a decent return I believe (around 8% return)
Here is a little hand held corkscrew press used to press my 1st gram
after turning as tight as possible I leave the press for a while keep tightening it up every now and then.. then unscrew and voila !
Am now testing smoking the first joint as I update the this thread...
Some uk grown and made Lebanese hash ..
So the smoke report so far...

flavour is good and I think will improve more with time
strength is there too
clean and clear buzz but with some body to it too

so you ask a very good question...
and something I believe many don’t clearly understand, possibly me included...
the answer will depend on your goal ultimately...
to understand the relevant points one needs to look at trichrome physics lmao
There are diff types of trichrome for a start and separating them all will mean you don’t have a full entourage effect imo.. however at certain microns more contaminants (dust / plant matter will collect and so the biggest and smallest sizes I believe are not great for hash ..
Once i have cleaned some of the kiefs of 90-120 microns i will blend them together before pressing for what I think will be the best hash possible.
The sweet spot for 5 or 6 star hash is using microns between around 70 and 140 as far as I’m aware .. this is from researching people like Canoli and other hash makers (many in the USA now).
i will also press some separately for comparison.
I did use the 190 micron to collect some ‘fuller spectrum’ which I expect to be not quite as strong but that’s fine as I prefer choices lol
hope this answers a little.. it gets harder to explain than it does to smoke for sure lol
