Suggestions Making hash with drysift from trim

Aim: to make best quality hash from sugar leaf dry trim, 4 star based on the mixed quality of inputs on this occasion. If all best quality material i would aim for 5 or 6 star full melt bubble ball (true temple balls only get made in temples!! 😉 )

Equipment used:

- 220u bag initially then switched to a 177u screen once it was delivered (to hold plant material)

- 45u screen (to catch the heads less than 177u and greater than 44u for the broadest spectrum hash possible whilst maintaining the highest quality)

- potting tray (or can just use a clean table to work on)

- balloon, a fine brush and a card (for static cleaning of heads)

- clean glass bottle filled with boiling water and parchment paper (to press the cleaned heads)

- 300g of dry trim from various strains I've grown over the last few months, frozen before use

Notes on dry sift vs ice water separations and micron sizes:

it is essential to remember this process (dry sift) is about simplicity and separations using the least amount of factors to separate.. sieving separates larger from smaller particles only.. it in itself does not clean and present the collections in their purest forms... hence the need to use static in this case to remove as much 'contaminants' (anything that's not a trichrome head), however organic they may be ! When using ice water method, the water and washing alongside a catchment bag and the 25u   removes most of this for us.

The idea also that a smaller bag collects the best trichs is somewhat misleading also... the best heads are the biggest ripest heads.. and their size will vary according to strain and grow.. typically the sweet spot is 70-120 but if the farmer grew the biggest heads the best catch could be in the 160u ! that would be a dream if u got that imo (but unlikely as most trichromes are 70-120u as stated) - that's what i picked up listening to Frenchie, RIP hash king. 

In ice water method often most of the smaller contaminants will end in the 25u along with lots of smashed glands and broken stalks. The 25u collection is often darker for this reason i believe.

As this was dry sift i tried to keep the theme of simplicity and least amount of equip which is why i didnt use more screen/ bag sizes. If i were testing a new strain I would use more to see how the splits were and learn more about the plant i just grew. As this was mixed trim in this case it would've served no purpose. 

By effectively collecting and mixing all heads between 45u and 176u i will retain a broader spectrum hash with the greatest, truest representation of the plant i just grew with all of its cannabinoids retained and combined, in hashish form! my opinion here as i cant test to prove this... yet

Processes used:

I worked firstly with a 220u bag with a steel bowl inside to hold trim, twisted tight to allow me to shake out out the 45u screen... id decided this was hard work so waited for my last screen to arrive, a 177u, the biggest i could find at the price.

I found 20g a good amount of trim to work with at a time as it fitted well on my new 177u A3 screen.

Work the frozen material quicky but gently across the screen and together in hands - be careful not to grate! keep material from breaking down to dust..

After 3-4 mins of light agitation its time to card collection together for static cleaning.

I used a paint brush to clean contaminants from balloon each time, which i collect in a bowl for @BillyBonds 😉

When cleaning, card the collection around whilst holding the statically charged balloon about an inch away.. the lighter impurities jump into the static charge and stick, the much heavier, denser trichrome glands stay put due to gravity.

Each 20g produced an average 1.2g-1.5g which after cleaning typically was 0.8 to 1.1g.

I typically used the balloon 6-7 times, cleaned and recharged each time, for each gram sieved.

In total from 300g trim i collected roughly 22g of golden, pretty clean heads. 

15g of this was used for the next procedure, the hot water bottle press..

This procedure is repeated until the hash becomes easily playable, sticky and binds. I rolled and re-rolled 6 times on this occasion.

The final product came out not quite as good as i'd have liked but I'm still happy as it came from a byproduct which had been hanging round in the freezer a bit too long.. dry is good but fresher as in less old the better!

I'd rate this hash at 3-4star, there is some bubble but way off full melt. 

I will keep this wrapped to cure for a while. It is smokable now but hopefully will still improve over time...Hash made from fresh frozen material (non dried) is more important to let cure imo as they haven't cured at all unlike dry trim resin glands which have already cured, separately at least.

I will try save whole dried flowers next time to have a run at some 5-6 star, when possible again!
