Hey grow fam!

I think that it would be awesome to have a discussion around this!  I have definitely heard mixed views on this and I obviously have my own.

I am of the school of thought, that humidity domes are not needed and are somewhat a detriment to seedlings.

Now, for clones yes they definitely  need them.  But that is because they have no roots and are feeding through their leaves.

For seedlings, we want those roots to grow as fast as possible.  If they are in a humidity dome feeding through their leaves, they don't need to grow fast to find food and water.  I just think that it could possibly be counterproductive?

Comparing the few grows I have under my belt, since I stopped using humidity dome for my seedlings I have had 100% success rate with seeds that popped a radical in the paper towel  when planted without a dome.

BUT, and a big BUT....   I am not that damn smart.   And not an expert in this matter in any way shape or form....   haha

Just curious as to the Percy's family thoughts on this matter and thought it could be a fun discussion!  So what yall think!  Haha

P.S. Rasta Jeff of Irie Genetics is where I learned this when I first started growing.  So I didn't completely  pull it out of my ass.  Lol

If the humidity in my tent is low I’ll use a humidity dome but I’ve found that as soon as the seed pops everything goes better if I vent the dome to let excessive moisture out. If I use plastic soda bottles the top part is most desirable because I can remove the cap after sprouting and the humidity seems perfect then for the seedling. By not allowing the condensation inside the dome the roots are more in play to keep the plant alive. When I use them the domes are usually gone in a week.

Yep i run domes for the first few days above ground then whip them off, being they have very little leaf and root structure at that point i like to give them the best chance at survival in those first few days, as an added bonus the domes help prevent the area around the seedling from drying out too quick if you have a high heat and or rapid air movement in the tent/room. Everyone has their own way and i have certainly tried multiple ways but the domes seem to give the best chance at keeping a goldilocks zone consistent for them, Just make sure you give the domes a quick lift or remove the cap to replenish the air once a day though.

I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.

I start my seeds in a propagation tray with a humidity dome. after they pop i usually move then to a pot with out a dome.

Ive had a couple that had issues and i placed a dome over them for a couple days.

Agree with all the above but would add jfi you can root clones fine without a dome so long as your environment isnt too dry.

Some industrial growers clone without using domes in their facilities at a normal room temps/ humidity

Ive also rooted clones myself straight into soil no dome...

Cannabis is one of the easiest plants to clone, possibly as it has such strong survival genes imo

however

i still prefer to use a propagator for rooting em too lol

also use bubble-wrap top on pots for seeds until they pop through the surface (and reuse again and again 😉 )

Time to pop some more beans 😗

Seems to me there is not one size fits all because of the local conditions varying so much. Although new to cannabis, I've been germinating seeds for decades, and always had better success with higher humidity. It is more like a spring time conditions.

I agree with all of the above. So here's my two cents. Dome if your RH is low, like below 55% is when I use one, but as everyone has stated, only for a short times. A few days max. I like Monkeydo's idea with the cap. Each situation is different, but I think using them hinges on RH, IMO.
