New member, willing to admit I lurked for awhile before joining up at Percy's, only for the simple fact that I needed to see for myself if this was conducive to my own approach and thoughts with regards to cannabis cultivation. I have to say, so far, Percy's Grow Room is by far the friendliest forum I've come across, willing to help and address issues amongst members, and it seems Egos are left at the entrance... what a refreshing concept in this day and age...
I am a Microgrower (~10 sq. ft total, spread over 5 repurposed cabinets) by heart (no need to produce massive amounts, but any excesses are gifted to those in need), and pretty archaic with regards to what most people use nowadays for gear. I veg and clone using CFL's, and flower using SIL's, taking a DIY approach as much as possible, with regards to budget. Perhaps, when personal budget and long-term goals collide, I will upgrade my "current system" to a more modern approach, but it has worked pretty well for me for the past 2 years.
I dabble a bit with Autoflowers, but my main interest is in Reg Photos and the potential crosses. A bit time consuming in a microgrow environment, but I believe worth it in the end. I do have a couple of mainstay strains(i.e. Skywalker OG, Mendo Lights) I will keep going because they work for me. Also makes breeding crosses a bit more simplified as I limit my choices to what's on hand rather than what's available. It would take me 1000 lifetimes to even attempt half the crosses I would like to, so I do what I can in the meantime. Lately, seedmaking, has become an extension of my experience and growth to date....
Even though I have some "experience", I will probably always consider myself a "newbie", as each grow presents it's own parameters and tolerances. Always something to learn... lol I have been fortunate so far, in that most runs have been successful, because taking a bit of extra time reading , and paying attention, without panicking has been my greatest asset. I treat failures and successes the same way... a life experience...easier to take heartbreak that way lol...
Been tokin' for a lot of years (mid 80s), few guerilla grows along the way (good and bad), until getting ripped by a "friend" lol (awesome outdoors location), and with the current status of cannabis in Canada, if I can share any experience to make it easier on others along the way, I will. Patience is your best friend...
