I usually make a half gallon of nutrients (for ease of measurement)for my girl grown in 3 gal soil. I usually feed her every 3rd day but scared of over feeding I usually have quite a bit of nutrients left over. Should I just toss? How long are they good? Can I put in an old/used container to make a nice medium for next grow?
She’s in week 3 of flower.
Vegged for 6 weeks.
Grown in FFOF/coco 70/30
Giving FF nutes as well(for the last time)
had another girl with her that ended up herming out and had to be tossed. And too far in flower to up-pot without too much stress on her sadly so she’s stuck in a 3 gal and the whole space to herself now. Got scared to scrog with the other herming like crazy so I just left her LST ties for now and will get better genetics next time.
@crotchkiller69 Welcome to Percys mate 🙂 Are you wondering how long the nutes stay good after they have been mixed with water?
I would thought it would be a good for a few weeks at least but im not sure. I grow in soil and use Biobizz nutes, I usually mix up 1 litre of feed (nutes/water) in a 1.5 litre plastic bottles. If I have 2 plants I'll mix up a bottle for each plant.
I did think about mixing up big amounts too but in the end I thought it would be better to just mix enough for 1 feed at a time.
But someone will probably be along soon and help you out 🙂

So in theory you could mix up a batch and let it sit but not for more than a few days. Certain nutrients will interact negatively with each other which is why most nutrient lines are split into part a+b and tell you to mix them both in water, not together and then into water if you understand what I mean. On the other hand you have the fact that the pH will rise over time as it sits and can take alot of effort to get it back down to your desired level. Its also then very hard to then know exactly how much of each nutrient you have in that mix. Personally I wouldn't do up a batch and leave it for more than a few days, currently I make a batch daily in coco and it is always within range by the time I feed it, but that being said if you only have a small amount and some plants you don't mind experimenting with in the future it could make for a fun experiment.... or it could be an unmitigated disaster lol. This is the fun part about growing, no one answer is definitively correct and every grower has experimented at one time or another otherwise we wouldn't be where we are today. I know that probably doesn't make the choice any easier but at least gives you an idea of why it's generally not the best idea to leave it sitting for long periods of time.
I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.
@bubblehok The longest iv used a batch of feed was nearly 2 weeks, but it was just bio grow and water. it was that plant I had in the cupboard with poor light, no fan, hardly any heat, so she wasn't drinking very much.lol
But it's only the one time iv done that and it wasn't planned. I think it's far easier just mixing up small batches because that way you have a better idea of how much your giving them each day and how much they're drinking etc and I dont plan on growing any more plants in a cupboard anytime in the near or distant future 😆

@stootie yeah I think it's possible but I suppose the more mixed in would make it questionable, I think the main thing is that having all those nutrients sitting there combined with each other can work against themselves which is why they have them split into 2 parts. If it was just water and say part A then yeah potentially could last weeks as long as you kept checking ph and things, still though you would have to think over that time it would change the dilution through evaporation etc. I'm not a scientist so i can only give my opinion based on what I have experienced and researched. As much as the nutrient companies do try and sell you stuff you don't need they have most likely done the research(well you would hope they have 🤣). Would be interesting to do a comparison of ph and ec changes over time as it sat and was slowly used, my guess is you would have to get either some loss or change in its chemical make-up. Stoner experiment #6384 🤣

@bubblehok Yea I wasn't thinking about different nutes being mixed together, but even with me just using grow on its own there's still going to be all sorts of chemicals and shit in the water that will react with it over time too, so 1 feed batches is definitely best.
In normal growing conditions that bottle of feed would have only lasted 1 day not 2 weeks, and it was only 1 liter 🤣

A+B are in seperate bottles for this reason, they react when put together and will likely coagulate at the bottom of the container after a little time, also Ph can alter as this reaction occurs...Personally I like to make feeds up as and when needed to avoid this
