Hi mate! Welcome to Percys, thanks for joining us. You're on the right track already 🙂

Lets see, where you from mate? UK, USA? Canada? Somewhere else?

How much spare time do you have? Will you be able to water the plants every day?

How much cannabis do you use in a week?

With that info we can give you a good idea of what to do next, whether hydro, coco, soil, how many plants, what space, what lights all that.

Do you have any plans in mind already?

Yes Uk based, growing for myself and brother who are both long term pain sufferers absolutely fed up with prescription opioids for all the reasons we all know about.

im wanting to grow the higher level CBd strains that I have been looking at as well as a few more strains for relaxing.

im unhappy with a lot of the weed that I have bought as it is always full of mould and basically poorly grown. I have got into the habit of looking at it under a microscope as I’m a bit fussy about my lungs and have been horrified at what I have seen.

so let’s say 4-6 plants and a very robust and manageable setup that only needs manageable intervention to get decent results.

i have a insulated barn with power and water but can’t decide on a tent or a room to get me going.

i want it to be well put together and my budget is 1k.

hope that gives some direction on what I want to do.

thanks

So you've been buying from the black market, which is thc heavy weed, but you want to grow CBD weed.

Id recommend you go for a strain that is 50/50 CBD and THC, get the best of both world that way mate.

Because you're growing for medicine, I would recommend you also grow organically. You have the budget to be able to source all of the ingredients and build a good organic soil, that will only ever need watering, and give you quality organic buds.

a 1.2 x 1.2 m ( 4ft x 4ft) grow tent would fit four plants, and will grow around 16-20 ounces in 16 weeks for the whole grow.

Does sound ideal?

Coco is a great medium for new growers, its easy, and forgiving, soil can be difficult if you have problems. But coco would take daily watering, but is easier all round IMO, you just have to water every day.

What do you think of any of this mate?

@macky

Thanks for the info, the quantity sounds fine, the organic meth0d is at the top of my list as I want my product to be the best it can be and as natural as it can be.

are there any shopping list guides for getting a newbie set up, I don’t necessarily just want economy but rather decent equipment that will work, is it possible to set up a auto watering Dripper system with coco ? Also all the leds I have looked at seem cost prohibitive so what route is best for lighting

thanks

Without a doubt, Invisible sun will be the best lighting mate. Them lights are amazing, they are sponsors here and you get 10% off. I don't just recommend them because they're sponsors, they sponsors because i we remcoened them, so check them out. Might be pricey, but worth, it, better light and less energy used than standard lighting they pay for themselves, in energy saving after a couple of grows.

you'll need:

1.2 x 1.2m Grow tent.
5 inch RVK extractor with a 5 inch Rhino, or Mountain Air, carbon filter

If you're going organic, are you going to build your own soil? or buy it?

you'll need some pots, of course 😉 start small, about one litre, transplant into 6l, then final transplant before flowering into 20l that will give you big plants with big flowers.

Nutrients will be in the soil

lighting, get the invisible such ISH 480, I have one, its amazing.

If you wanna go for cheaper lights like high pressure sodium, get 250 w metal halide bulb, with a 400 w metal halide bulb, and 600w high pressure sodium bulb, with a digital dimmable ballast, you can get those from lumi. Cheaper, but more on the energy bills.

Youll need a desktop fan too.

It sounds like a lot mate but it isnt.

Start off getting the tent, and the extraction and lighting. then we can move onto the soil and food, this cool? Hope it helps man?

If youre looking at buying now i can get some links for you?

Hi Macky some links would be great, I would buy the soil at this stage, one other concern is as I will be growing through the winter and my grow space is unheated what Heating  will I need that isn’t going to bust my electric bills ?

Temple Grower has a good soil recipe mate:

Organic Super Soil Recipe, by Temple Grower

Have a look at that

Also, the tent you get, there are so many brands, you can really just choose any mid range one and be happy with it. Hydrolabs are a good UK company that makes tents.

@highflyer

Yeah, it seems to work well for me, if that's the way you're thinking of going. Very little maintenance.  Just watch your Nitrogen inputs (blood meal, chicken manure, +/- compost) as that recipe can be a bit rich.
