Jadam,

So let's talk about Jadam and how is everyone making their own version. So it sounds like most people are following Chris Trump's recipe as I am too, so let's see how we are all doing.

Mixing,

I use 3 gallons/12L of RO water in a clean bucket.

2 tsp of Sea Salt, I have Atlantic sea salt. It has to be sea salt.

1 boiled potato, medium size, boiled for 20 mins in RO water and I use the water also in the mix.

I gather 1 small spade full of dirt that contains the actually dirt, then the decomposing material above that, and then the next layer that's beginning to decompose. Usually I find this at the edge of the yard where the grass meets the wood line.

I wrap the cooled potato (cut into pieces) and the dirt in cheese cloth and suspend it with a string in the salt water solution. Then give it a squeeze and work it around some.

This is where things may change from what others are doing.

I trap the string holding the bag with the lid of the bucket. I use a lid instead of a stick and plastic bag, but I don't snap it tight I let one side vent a little.

After 24hrs-36hrs it's ready. I remove the lid and dip out enough for a 20:1 ratio, so 6oz for 1gal/4L. I don't stir the mixture but I have before and I don't aerate the solution either.

The plants really seem to love it and it's easy to make, but doesn't have a long shelf life so timing is key. So when I make up a batch I have to time it so the plants are ready to be watered when the Jadam is ready. I try and use this once a week and have read that it can be used every feeding. But feeding ratio's are supposable crucial. Don't over due the amounts. fyi

So what's everyone else doing with their Jadam?

Hey, there, @Woodi2 !  This is a great question. I am going to see if maybe @Monkeydo could split this off into a separate thread in the Korean Natural Farming section of the forum. Seems to me it is very appropriate to have a Jadam thread all by itself. To answer your question, I do much as you do, except I probably need to use more soil and also switch to sea salt. I did’t have any sea salt at the time I made mine, so I just used un-iodized table salt.

Now, what I am not clear on, because I have not had the time to do any reading on the subject, is why this needs to be used right away.  I say that because I heard “OK Calyx” on Jordan’s Growcast talk about doing much the same with vegetative matter (and more of it), but letting it sit for a couple of weeks, or even 6 months in a bucket to make KLF (Korean Liquid Fertilizer). Apparently OK Calyx got this from the Jadam book which he has read multiple times (check the July 11 episode, at about 28-29 minutes mark).  I am also not sure how to square this with what Dr. Ingham has said about anaerobics being toxic to soils, and how it is to be avoided in compost…. unless I am misunderstanding something here. So, can you not keep a bottle of JMS around an use it after the fact? I need to the read the info you sent me from kiss organics — just been working too hard.

Maybe this is where we’re could ask @Macky to see about getting another KNF show setup since we have all had an introduction to it from Chris Trump?  I am a voracious reader, but my work load has reduced that down to almost nil lately, so I have been relying on listening to podcasts on my commute.

Anyone can start a new thread so if we need a JMS specific thread I can do that and move this there or we can leave this as is. My process comes from a very early Chris Trump video. I use 3 smallish potatoes that I cook in the microwave. I wrap them in shade cloth and tie shut. Next find decaying leaves. I like to see the white fungus on them. Take those leaves and a small scoop of soil below that and tie that in some fiberglass screen. I suspend both in the top of a 5 gallon bucket of rainwater and gently massage the tied bundles to release the some of the contents into the water. Cover with a plastic bag overnight and it’s good to go. In the morning it’s usually foaming and ready. From what I’m seeing it’s only good to use for about 3 days in my environment.   I use 40ish ounces per 5 gallons and everything I’ve fed it to loves it, especially the pineapples. I’m even using it every couple of weeks in my coco grow. So far it’s great stuff.

I've wondered about the anaerobic nature of JADAM too. Did any further information on it?

Maybe it's the dilution ratios that prevent any alcohol or lactic acid problems? Sure someone must've explaned it all somewhere. Wil have to dig a bit deeper.

@peacefulmonkeyking JMS is intended to be used fast, immediately and making it. It would be difficult to get high enough concentration of alcohol or the like in the short time frame this is brewing (36hrs) and like you mentioned, you dilute this stuff a lot. I use 20 ounces to make 5 gallons of final product. You can treat a whole lot of plants with a single batch
