Ever since it was proved that you get quicker veg growth or more above ground growth to be correct I switched to 24/7
now with this price hike I’m wondering about going back to 18/6
seems obvious that would be cheeper right but then I think will I’ll be vegging longer to get that extra % above ground growth and would it be cheaper in the long run.
thanks in advance for any input
@mix could veg on 24/0 but have lower power lights because the plants dont need as much.... other wise 18/6 is fine IMO

Mine look tired after an 18hr day of hard growth. They look well rested the next morning and ready to go. Plus they grow, eat and drink at night, well mine do. Party animals! lol I do like them having a dark period. Good luck and will see what you find out.

hi bro, where was this proved btw?
i always assumed some dark period would be beneficial.. although i have grown under 24hrs light so know its fine to do! I also havnt noticed that plants grown under 20hrs of light grow any slower than under 24hrs in my environments..
also now we know plants can only make use of max of PPFD / daily lighting integral which is dependant on how well all other growth factors are in balance (temps/ co2/ nutrition/ oxygen in root zone/ water / all being powered by the amount of light available..
this daily lighting integral can definitely be achieved by running lights less than 24hr in veg
The maths can all be worked out but is only theory until executed within a consistently dialed-in room.
imo i wouldnt worry bout loss of plant matter in veg.. i would rather be more efficient with what i spend on electric
good luck and happy growing /p>
ps plants will stay in veg (most) with more than 14 and half hrs light... therefore u can have any combo more than this for veg eg 15/9 or 16/8 or 18/6 or 21/3 etc so u can compromise between 18/6 and 24/0 if u like
Time to pop some more beans 😗
Plants have to have to dark period to produce certain enzymes or shit like that, it's an important part of the process.... there are a few you tube vids on the importance of the dark period. this is for all plants too.. 6 hours a day id 42 hours a week. that's a lot of electric for minimal gain and possibly loss in overall balance imo.

Exactly the same question for me??? It might be just a casual poll but nearly every grower I’ve spoken to that grow autos report no better and sometimes worse results with 24/0 lighting schedules. If we are missing something it would be good to know. I’d really appreciate the link to that research so I could read/see for myself.

@monkeydo If you have weaker lights then it may take 24 hours to get the most it can. but with good leds they should be able to receive what they require for good growth in less hours.
I found the required DLI on the 420 green thumb website then used a online DLI calculator to figure the rest.
seedling stage cannabis plants will need 13 – 19 DLI each day.
vegatative stage our plant needs to receive upwards of 20 - 35 moles of light each day.
Flowering stage Optimal flowering may require around 38 – 65 DLI units each day.
200 par @18 hrs = 13 DLI (seedlings)
300 par @18 hrs = 19 DLI (seedlings)
310 par @18 hrs = 20 DLI (early veg)
540 par @18 hrs = 35 DLI (late veg)
625 par @18 hrs = 40 DLI (autos) (flower)
925 par @12 hrs = 40 DLI (Photos) (flower)
1000 par @ 18 hrs = 65 DLI (Autos) (flower)
1500 par @12 hrs = 65 DLI (Photos) most likely need co2 at this level (flower)
Hope this helps or at least peaks the interest
Sativa to change the things I can, Indica to accept the things I can’t.
OK cool, strain dependent and dependent on light intensity too. That really make the most sense. Good one @twisted1 and thanks for the data. I’ve always tended to run at the higher end of light intensity in flower and sometime it gets me into trouble. This tool gives a decent benchmark to work within, Thanks man.
