Hi.

Please could someone explain blurple lights to me. I have one that I ended up with by mistake and I'm wondering if I could be using it in conjunction with my grow light?

It's one of those cheaper ones that has two arms with a bar light on each, the ones you can angle in any direction. Do you use it at seedling, flower, on its own or with the grow light?

Thanks for any help

@mrfrog You got a pic of it mate? Probably only good for seedlings by the sound of it.

If it's the kind I've seen on places like Amazon I'd agree with Macky. Probably okay for starting seedlings but not much else.

My very first grow was with these. I had just a grasp of the basics and really knew no better. That grow was Sour Diesel. Those plants were some of the largest I've grown. Other than eventually being infested with spider mite and grappling with my first experience of coco, A&B, I was delighted with my first attempt. I made coconut oil with most of the harvest and then some brownies from that. They were good enough to give me a full on 'edible overdose' that I'll never forget.

In short they may not be the best, but IMHO some of them are quite capable of giving you a decent harvest 👍

I think I remember Stootie started growing with one of those flexible arm lights. It will grow weed but if I’m thinking of the correct light, it lacks power to deliver solid nuggs in any quantity. Might be a veg light or a supplemental light but not a full run kind of light.

I’ve got a shelf full of blurple lights but only rarely put them into use these days.

Hi everyone.

It is the cheap, flexi arm light your thinking of. I wasn't going to use it as my set up now is (while at the cheaper end) working great. I was mor wondering why people use them, what do you get from a blurple that a normal light won't do?  Are they better for flower or seeds?

Thanks

@mrfrog you don’t get anything extra from them, actually just the opposite, you get less. It used to be a cheaper way to provide the main spectrums that plants use for photosynthesis but with the development of low cost and better full spectrum diodes, you don’t see these as much anymore. They were just a cheaper alternative once upon a time. I threw some blurples in a tent about 8 months ago for a few extra photons. They still have some value but I avoid them if possible because of their lower efficiency.

I've not encountered the 'flexi-arm' blurples you mention, just the generic Chinese Amazon cheapo crapola. Whilst I wouldn't go back to those days myself, I did indeed manage to get a decent harvest off of the pair I bought. Faced with those or nothing, I'd go ahead and see exactly what is possible. My pair too are gathering dust.

I’m really glad I never got a burple led & stuck with the hailde/hps till the new brand of leds came about. The colour just fesses up my eyes so much.

guess if it’s a only a seedling type light you could add it as side lighting depends how much heat it throws out might be more expensive to run than what’s it’s worth.

as said a pic would help others help you better as it might be worth adding or not witchever way good luck
