Hi All,

I saw the following on a YouTube channel.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this dimming schedule for photoperiods.  This is based on having a full canopy:

Week 1 until the end of week 3 for veg 25%

Week 4 veg until the end of week 2 of flower 50%

Week 3 until the end of week 5 of flower 75%

Week 6 of flower until harvest 100%

Any deviation from the above is based on the activity of the fan leaves.  If they are happy fan leaves should be flat.

In the mornings fan leaves sometimes pray upwards when the lights come on if they continue to pray for most of the day they need more light.

If there is too much light the fan leaves will fold down to protect themselves by reducing their surface area and growth is likely to be stunted, consequently lights should be dimmed down.

For autos the guy doesn't get a full canopy therefore if the canopy is 75% full for example he would never turn the light up to more than the percentage of canopy, in this case 75%.

If this produces a good healthy yield could be a reasonable saving on electric costs, and something I did not know was that if plants get too much light terpenes can suffer.

Regards

Percentages are not the best way to describe illumination because my lights might be far more powerful than the next guys lights. I do use a dimming process but the schedule is a bit different

How much I dim in late flower depends on what the plant is doing at that time

@organicviper, I understand what your saying but there a few other variables involved. The wattage of the light is very important as is the hanging height above the plant. IMO the best way to adjust and proved proper lighting is to use a PAR light meter and the manufactures recommended hanging height.

Checking the manufactures recommended hanging height and setting that a good place to start. I have 300 and 645 watt lights and after getting a PAR meter along with those manufactures recommendation, I found that I was way too high and explained why I was have such light problems. It's like driving a car without a steering wheel you have no idea which way your going. The lights now a days are very strong for their size and almost impossible to adjust by eye balling it, so for the best results, start by know where your lights PAR is at so you can customize from there. This is what's been working for me, Good Luck man. 👍

Good point, the video didn't mention the light wattage or hanging height.  Makes good sense to base dimming on actual PAR in the individual setup, I'll add a meter to my shopping list.  Thanks.
