Hi all.
I'll add to this over time but thought I'd stick a thread up to stop cluttering Beau's journal /p>
Happy to answer any questions you may have.
I've built a few lights in the past both for myself and others. Only used COB led's so far but plan on putting one together similar to the quantum boards you can get as well.
This man taught me everything I know about led lighting. I have a background in mechanical and electrical engineering so had a basic understanding but not how it relates to grow lights.
I'd recommend watching all 6 of his basic guides and if you are a tech nerd like myself you'll probably watch all his others.
He started out just doing DIY lights and is now working for a large American firm building some amazing lights.

I'll add to this thread as I get a chance and I find interesting stuff
Lovely stuff Ivean, gonna be a great thread! I've made it a sticky

I put this 9 x cxb3590 light together in Sep 21.
Has a Meanwell HLG-600H-36B powering it and has a variable resistor controlling wattage.
At 160W at the wall I am getting just a little bit of bleaching on the odd leaf tip.
May need to reposition the overhead RAM fan to see if I can get a bit more height.
Almost certain if I use a smaller space I might be limited to about 70-125W at the wall.
They do seem quite efficient these cxb3590's.
Beware of cheap Chinese variable resistors.
I had one fail within 24hrs and it meant the light was drawing 601W at the wall.
I got home just in time....
There most certainly would have been a fire.
Working on a temperature monitor that shuts the power off and simply uses a cfl to keep photoperiod in the event of another failure.

Fuck!! Lucky you got home intime man! Always gotta be careful and by good UK made products 😉 lol

Someone was looking over Me that evening I believe.
Hopefully the monitor I build will also detect power failure and turn on a 12VDC fan to keep the smell down.
Had a few power cuts lately. This could become an issue for Us all this Summer and beyond as oil/gas supplies potentially get squeezed.

I costed up the 9 cxb3590 light and its worked out at £580
I'm happy enough with that as the bud I have had off the 2 previous grows combined with £? for this latest grow means its paying for itself and for hopefully years to come.
Its drawing 160W at the wall and I can either raise the watts until I get to around 800-950 ppfd or lower the light.
I'm so glad I spent the extra using more crees as I feel its going to save a large amount now the utility company is stiffing Us all come April Fools day.

Taken yesterday.
Lowered to 45cm and producing 798ppfd at 200w

Hoping to put up some pics of the arduino project I am putting together.
I plan to use a PCA9685 12bit PWM Servo Driver that has its own onboard chip to control each of the 16 channels of pwm used to control a meanwell led driver , fans , thermometers and pumps etc.
MOSFET breakout boards address the voltage difference of the arduino at 5vdc and for example a 12vdc fan.
The PCA9685 will free up the arduino to run other tasks such as ppfd/dli monitoring via an as7341 spectrometer chip.
I may use an RPI 4 to log the data for comparison between grows.
Also planning to imitate the changing day lengths in an outdoor grow to see if I can get the photoperiod to initiate flowering at the plants own discretion.

@indicaxsativa Hows the project going so far and new pics?
Hi
Managed to do a bit of tinkering with the arduino project.
I hope to try powering the arduino with the 5vdc provided by the meanwell hlg-600h-36b driver.
Here is a pic of the draught version.
When power is supplied to the meanwell driver I wanted to ensure it started up in the off state so connected a NC relay in parallel to the MOSFET board.
Happy with it so far.
I am aiming to use the larger of the 2 prototyping boards to mount the various boards in tidier setup.
With a RPI4 and 7" HDMI touch screen it will hopefully become a natty control/logging system.
