I am wondering if too much light stunts young ones? I think that happened to me. Had mine full bore from seed.

Was watching YouTube pro guy he dims his and adds brightness as he goes. His plants looked spectacular he recommended a par meter and gave his readings for each stage. I am contemplating adding this par gadget. Will experiment with dimmers next time.

Whats your thoughts? Anyone got a lux or par meter? They ain't cheap. 🤣🤣

Never thought I would get so in-depth lol

Too much light will stunt or even kill a seedling. Growing indoors you do need to take the age of the plant into account when setting up your light. Most manufacturers provide information as to the recommended distance to the plant in various stages of growth. Initially the distance is usually 24-30 inches (60-75cm) and eventually drops to about half that distance at peak bloom. The increasing of distance reduces the light intensity. I purchased a par meter last year because I like to know that kind of information but there are hacks around that allow you to use a standard light meter or even a smartphone app to measure LUX output. That info can then be used to approximate the par output via some info available from Migro on their YouTube channel. If you are interested in reasonable targets for lighting in various stages of growth here’s a good guide.

I also like to reduce the light intensity the last couple weeks. No hard evidence yet but initial results were really good.

@monkeydo

"I also like to reduce the light intensity the last couple weeks. No hard evidence yet but initial results were really good."

This is only my opinion and I could be wrong.

I will be doing this from now on because logically it makes so much sense

The strength of the sun is weaker in the spring (plants receive less par), stronger in the summer(receive upto double in the summer) and again weaker in the autumn and the plants are biologically designed to grow under these conditions

so recreating those conditions indoors should give you the best results

thc is degraded in strong light and warm temps, so a cooler room with say 10% less par/temps  could in theory increase the amout of thc and help to finish the plant off because you telling the plant winter is comming and your running out of time so the plants uses all of its energy to produce more thc

@Bandit, @jacks farm, idea and theory are definitely sound and well thought out. Instead of reducing the light intensity I just raise my light a little higher, which still gives me excellent light penetration through the canopy to lower branches, which helps with a better yield overall. THC production should ramp up due to the reduced par level and my lower branches and buds still get lots of light.  I tried this with my last grow and it seemed to work pretty good for me. Both my Wedding Cake and the Blueberry Kush plant exceeded my expectations with 289 grams dry from 2 plants.

@mediamaster 289 grams how wonderful well done. My lights cant raise much more unless I can modify the hanging set up but I have food for thought with these ideas. i guess I could remove the grids from under pots for a little extra distance...

thanks for posting Fist Bump
