So started some seeds yesterday, ready for nutrients and lights arriving this week.
Just found out that I missed the info saying the lights wouldn’t be dispatched until the 10th Sept. Completely my fault.
Now trying to decide if I should just order something different and get on with it, or if I should get the small seedling light I was considering to get me started for a couple of weeks while I wait.
So basically, how soon will I likely need something more than this seedling light?
Ouch, I hate it when stuff like this happens. You can get on without the main light for a few weeks if you can provide the seedling with enough photons to stay healthy and strong. Any fluorescent bulb will work for a while as will LED light bulbs. Whatever you do, don’t use regular incandescent bulbs as they produce more heat than light and your plant won’t be happy. You’ll have to keep the bulbs close to your plant as they aren’t very strong but they can pull you through till the main light arrives. You could also put the seedling outside in the sun for a week if you have a decent spot. Time to think outside the box mate but there are good answers available

I’ve left young plants under T5”s for a while, for some reason they always seem to look nice and like being under it, until they want more light! LOL
you didn’t mention what kind of seeds, could be a bit concerning if your seeds are autos, and sept 10th comes and goes and it still didn’t ship.
doesn’t hurt to research a plan B in case you have to make a last minute decision.

@sevans1965 thanks, they’re photos
I know they’re ‘only’ £10 seeds and I’ve a few more I could plant - but feels like a big deal 🥴
@fital IMO, I think you’ll be fine, worse case, growth may slow a little, then she’ll bounce back with more light.

@fital one other thing to note, too much light, too soon can be very stressful on a young plant in early veg.

I use my normal lights but I make the distance very large (at LEAST two foot above "canopy") and dial them down to around 25% power. I adjust these two variables depending on how much they stretch. Using spiderfarmer lights but I think most others have this function as well. A heat mat for the seedlings is good too, I added that to my sprouting last time and had great results.
I have a cheap homedepot led light for similar issues, they do good in a pinch.
