See that black gold under that tree?
That tree fell Over about 20 years ago, right alongside the 4 wheeler trail My grandfather made 40 years ago on federal land.
I'm 5'11 260lbs.... When that tree fell, I took a picture Underneath this tree where I was on my knees And I had room all around me. There is only about 2 feet between the bottom of that tree and the ground now.
Think i'm gonna head out in the woods and grab a five gallon bucket of this stuff this weekend. We have a warm app in the weather and it's probably the last time. I'll be able to get anything before the ground freezes solid.
Now I'll get to my question....... I'm thinking about using this with warm castings As my middle layer.... Marco called it the meat and potatoes Layer!!!
What do you guys think????
@aadam6om6 i would use it for sure. But thats me loving that way of growing. Although i don't do "real" layering I only use lava rock as a ground layer and then my soil mix

Be prepared for all the bugs that are going to hatch from that material, doing it in a separate tent quarantined from your other plants, would be wise.
@mr-buddster that's good enough for me!! I'm just gonna use my five gallon fab pots For now because that's all I Have.
@mitsos I shall become prepared!!! I'll just put the mix in thier final pots, Those pots will only be in the flower tent..... I'll transplant them into their final pots about a week before I flip the lights. Maybe I'll get a couple five gallon buckets of it and sift the material ....
Almost time for the living soil bed grow!!! Going to head into the woods this coming weekend and get some of that black gold under that stump!!
Lava rock is in... Going to order up about twenty pounds of pumice for soil mix.
@mr-buddster do you use around 1/3 pumice in your soil mix? I also have a lot of happy frog soil left, I was wondering if I could use a little bit of that up in my mix without hurting anything? Maybe for the Peat part?

@aadam6om6 sorry for the long wong wait on the reply. I am stepping back on internet time, it took way too much away from my day.
Regarding your question. I went ⅓ rice hulls and ⅓ lava rock (its very hard to get pumice around my area) and the third part was worm compost. I hav no experience with happy frog but if would mix a new soil now i would add in a little bit of coco so the soil is just a little bit fluffier.
