Hello, all. Hope you are well.  I have a parent who is in very poor health and the situation is compounded by advanced arthritis in knees and a hip, but it cannot be addressed due to advanced stages of cancer.

My question is this: does anyone have experience with arthritis pain relief from CBD via gummies? Apparently 25mg of CBD with 2mg of THC in a quality gummies (reputable brand) has not provided any relief after daily consumption for over a month. I am wondering if it is high enough dosage?  Thoughts/recommendations? Sigh….

Thanks in advance.

@im_sparky I use edibles to treat my aches and pains and this includes some arthritis pain as well. I get relief with high THC gummies and because of both my daily use as well as the background threshold of pain I need to break through, my day starts with ~40mg of THC in my homemade full spectrum gummies. My dose is high, never start there. It gives me a little buzz at times but it’s not difficult for me to do most anything when properly medicated, I’m used to it. I wouldn’t recommend a massive dose right away but I would say that if there’s no relief try two gummies next time and tweak the dosage as needed. If you can get a 1:1 gummy, that might make the difference as THC is a great pain med. Also wanted to say that for certain arthritis pain, a cannabis salve or lotion really helps me. It won’t help with damaged joints like bad knees/hip but does help with arthritic pain most of the time for me. You just need to try some changes to find what works for them and I hope you find something to give them some relief.

One last caveat, cannabis isn’t effective on 100% of the population. In studies and polls about 15-20% of people did not receive desirable relief after using it.

@monkeydo Thanks so much for that detailed info.  Yes, I know THC is good at pain relief, but unfortunately, this person is very reluctant to try THC due to the intoxicating effects. The anti cannabis campaign has had a huge impact on them for a lifetime. Sigh…

I thought I had heard others get relief with CBD.  Anyone?

Yes. The wife gets botox injections. Cbd rich Critical Cure strain helps. She said after smoking a joint the pain dropped 70%. That is staggering. She won't eat edibles.

I’m in the same boat @im_sparky, I’m currently researching strains for an older family member who has spinal arthritis, and am looking for one with a higher CBD content, although it seems strains with at least some thc help with pain so is a tricky one. I haven’t actually told this family member I’m planning on this ( Rule Num 1 lol), I’m hoping to find a strain in the right ball park to get some relief, and then convincing her to do some trail and error while we find what works best 🤞couple of strains I’m thinking of looking into more though are Harlequin and ACDC, I don’t know anything more than I’ve read on the internet but I’ve read people say they have had some relief by using them, though sure most people go through a few strains before finding what suits them best, hope you find the right one soon though mate 👍

@gelert

I do hydro. Breaking up the root ball after harvest kills my hands. I have arthritis from swinging a hammer.

I made some cannabis salve. It stopped the pain completely. I'm not talking lessening the pain to a tolerable level, which is what I thought it would do, it was GONE. No pain whatsoever. It does not touch my bulged disc pain but it helps with a lot of other pain issues.

I know others who have also made salve. One diabetes patient with foot pain actually cried after using it. She was happy as hell.

It's certainly not a cure-all. I'm not sure how it would work but it can't hurt. It's not psychoactive.  I'm adding CBD isolate to the mix. It seemed to help my wife's pain.

Anyway, good luck!

@gelert

You can make salve out of buds or trim.

While I’m no expert on this, never tried then, but I’ve heard that cannabis suppositories can deliver the relief without the high. We’ve had a couple of members over the years that have used them but I no other information other than maybe suggesting you look into this. Again, this is just what I’ve heard and I’ve got no other info.

Thanks, everyone for your input.  This is helpful, and I think its helpful to hear from different people about getting relief for different issues.  I had not thought of topicals, and know that can be purchased here.

Does anyone have any experience with CBD gummies/edibles giving arthritis relief, and if so, at what dosage?  @marge, I know you don’t speak for the whole edible community, and I hope you don’t mind me tagging you, but is this something you are aware of?

Again many thanks to everyone!

@misher21

I break the root balls apart and put them in a lawn leaf bag when I do the trees n such for my yard.

I boil my rocks in a garage sale pot then put them on a towel/rag on my table to cool. I try to use them soon or dry them completely.  I've been using the same rocks for years.

I was able to find a salve with high THC (1CBD:3THC) in a salve that has really provided relief for joint pain (mu parents live in a legal state). Although I tend to grow strains with moderate amounts of THC, I may need to get a high THC strain growing to make some salve.  Thanks for the help here, everyone — I had not thought of a salve.
