@im_sparky I recently discovered edibles and in my short experience high THC does work against musculoskeletal pain. I got carried away to begin with and was more than pleasantly buzzing most days Smile I've not combined it with CBD but I imagine there will be a sweet spot for each individual. Good luck Smile

It's just a fucking plant mate.

If the government would actually test it that would help. This "your own pharmacist" stuff is a pain in the uhhh... disc.

@im_sparky I don't mind the tag at all!  Edibles can be very helpful for arthritic pain but as with everything cannabis, the dose is going to vary from person to person so you'll need to experiment.  Using it in conjunction with topicals can probably add additional relief.  Some people swear by edibles and topicals and it's the thing that helps them get through their day!

I saw people mentioning root balls earlier in this thread but missed the specific context, but I just had a guy on my show who uses the roots to infuse coconut oil.  He only uses this infusion for topicals and says that the roots are high in CBG, interesting if you wanna experiment yourself.  He himself makes infused bar soap, Manny from Bud & Lather.  Great guy!

Life is short, eat the edible.

@marge I just finished processing my roots from the last harvest. Didn’t know what to do with them now that they are in a powder. Do they need to be decarbed or anything before turning them into coconut lotion? BTW, if anyone wants to try making root powder, it’s best to only use the finer pieces as the larger taproot’s have very woody centers. They don’t grind but turned into a cottony looking fluff. Too much cellulose to easily pulverize.

@monkeydo no they don't need to be decarbed first! This is how Manny does it as explained on that episode and in the show notes:

  • Roots from cannabis plants are high in CBG and can be infused like flower (16-20 hours) in a crock pot, no decarb needed – excellent for topicals, not recommended for ingestion

I'd never imagined you could use them to infuse but now you can use the entire plant from cola to root! (I recently did an interview with Breeder Steve, yet to be released where he talks about using fan leaves to infuse cooking oil!)

I haven't tried either of these infusions yet but once my summer grow is done, you can bet I'll be cleaning out that dirt and giving it a try (everyone on my list is gonna get cannabis salves for Christmas this year!)

Life is short, eat the edible.

@marge Thank you Marge. I'm going to give it a go and see if it's effective for me.

I’ve been very occupied with family matters for the last week, so I am playing catch-up  on this thread. Here’s an update and some details I hope will help others in the future.

SUMMARY OF WHAT WORKED
Even though my elderly parent was very closed-minded about cannabis and concerned about the “stigma”, a commercially made cannabis salve provided VERY significant pain relief. The situation is this: one of my parents has advanced cancer in addition to severe bone-on-bone arthritis in both knees and one hip (the other hip was replaced before the cancer diagnosis a few years ago). Due to cancer treatment, there is very little to be done for the arthritis pain from a traditional medical perspective except narcotics, and that causes serious stomach issues and makes the person feel terrible.

My parents live in a legal recreation and medical state, so I was able to get an oil-based salve made by Mary Jane’s Medicinals that is 1CBD:3THC, and wow — it worked very well!  The pain was not just diminished, but was TOTALLY GONE after use and it lasted throughout the day. Experimentation showed that if the salve was applied to only parts of the knee, there would be lingering low-level pain, but total coverage resulted in TOTAL relief.  My parent was in disbelief at how well it worked, but they are now completely convinced. I will definitely be thinking about growing some high-THC strains in the future and infusing some coconut oil to have this on hand for future use. Also, just given the situation, I was really relieved I could go the dispensary and legally get a product that was highly effective where pharmaceuticals and traditional doctors have failed.  It just goes to show how messed up the system is and how cannabis should be legal world-wide to provided people who are suffering relief.

Again, I really appreciate everyone’s input and support here. Percys is the best.

@gelert

I have arthritis from swinging a hammer.

 I made some cannabis salve. It stopped the pain completely. I'm not talking lessening the pain to a tolerable level, which is what I thought it would do, it was GONE. No pain whatsoever. It does not touch my bulged disc pain but it helps with a lot of other pain issues.

@artmann, I am re-reading this thread since time at my parents’ was a little overwhelming. Just to clarify, you make a salve from bud and not out of the roots, correct?  I know others have spoken to the use of roots, but I wanted to make sure I understand correctly. I am not clear about your later mention of rocks.

 A 1:3 CBD/THC salve also provided my parent total relief.

@im_sparky

I had never heard of using the roots. Mine was strictly flower.

The rocks I boil are little clay balls, aka hydroton, that I grow in. I reuse them. But I have to break up the root ball to get them back. I grow hydroponics and have always disposed of the roots.
