Hello Percy Growers!

I’ve been reading up on CBD rich strains and 1:1 strains and wondered whether anyone here has tried them or better yet tried growing them... If so, what did you think to them?

Thanks!

@gggrowboy I have tried Charlotte's Web and I found it to be very strange the first time I smoked it because my body was super relaxed but I was not feeling high at all. After a while I got used to the feeling and found that it was an amazing strain for the daytime if you still have stuff to do

@cloudy_kitchen yeah that’s basically what I’m looking for; something to smoke during the day that gives me the same anti-anxiety, relaxing and uplifting affects but without having to be so stoned.
I’ve heard of peeps who mix CBD flowers with regular buds and are having good results with that, and then there are lots of 1:1 strains around now that also look to be interesting.
Thinking to experiment with a few strains next grow season and Charlotte’s Web sounds like a good one 👌🏼

@gggrowboy I’ve done some reading as well as some listening to shows/articles related to 1.1 CBD flower. Most growers preferred to do as you mentioned, mix regular flower with CBD flower. The explanation was that it depends on when you harvest CBD rich flower as to what the ratio is between THC and CBD. This takes practice and experience with a strain. If you mix your own blend you can precisely control the desired result much more easily.

@monkeydo yeah that makes sense - I imagine there’s a sweet spot for every person with each different blend. I’ve just ordered some good quality CBD flower so I’ll be able to experiment with that very soon.

I've run Seedsman's Cookies Chill CBD with great success. The description says it's a 2:1 but I had mine tested via a GemmaCert FTIR spectrometer and it came back at 12.1%CBD and 0.4% THC so, if you're looking for something like that, I can absolutely recommend this particular cultivar.

As for effects, I am not a huge fan personally as the main reason I use cannabis is to bring my stomach and bowels back to baseline, so I can eat properly and whatnot.  For me, CBD does help with a general 'calming of the nerves' but for the more acute appetite stimulation and antiemetic (anti-nausea) effects, I require some THC as well.

I am listening to the episode 140 of the podcast Growing with Fishes. Yeah still listening, it goes for about 3,5 hours! Still I highly recommend any medicinal user to listen to this episode. Specially if you are dealing with epilepsy and seizures. They go deep into how different cultivars, different harvesting times and different terpenes influence seizures both for the better or worse.

Anyway there they interview Wade Laughter. He seems to have a lot of experience with CBD rich cultivars. He was actually the guy who first grew the famous Harlequin cultivar from seeds he got from Switzerland. He (Wade) mentions that in his experience the highest CBD:THC ratio is achieved when the thricomes are all cloudy and right before they go amber. He does say though, that this is not the case with all the cultivars he has grown, but with many CBD rich cultivars it has been the case.

I have grown Candida (ACDC x Harlequin) from MM Genetics and it is indeed very relaxing but doesn't get me high at all. I have been growin for 4 years now and have grown Candida 3 different times and she is without a doubt the most difficult cultivar I have grown. You can get 2 different phenos from Candida: one sativa like (tall, lanky, slim leaf fingers, up to 20% CBD) and one indica like (short, bushy, up to 10% CBD) I've always gotten the sativa phenos and again, very delicate, a total diva which will require lots of attention. Still very delicious aroma and in the end totally worth the effort.

I have grown Fast Eddy, Stress Killer, both from RQS, Med Gom 1.0 from GrassOmatic and Critical Auto CBD from Dinafem. All 4 of them autos. All of them easy to grow and with nice relaxing effect. Check them out, maybe you find something that suits you.

Stay happy and safe. Happy growing and good smokes Bongin

@templegrower thanks for the heads-up! 🙏🏼 I guess I need to experiment first, see what works best.
I mostly use to help moderate low moods and anxiety and both THC and CBD have a positive affect there. But I seem to have become somewhat sensitive to THC lately and have found that if i’m not very careful with dose it can often exasperate things.

I’ve read that CBD works in harmony with THC, counteracting some of its psychoactive effects and offering a more rounded, pleasant experience. And that’s what I would like to test.

@galandil thanks for the info and all the recommendations 🙏🏼
There are some great sounding photoperiod strains, like Blue Dream CBD from Humbolt, OG Kush CBD from Dinafem and CBD Skunk Haze from Dutch Passion. I think I’m going to try a handful of Auto’s first though, see how I get on there and then maybe try my hand at a finicky diva like Candida 😏
