My wife has a number of ailments (back pain, hip pain) that potentially would benefit from cannabis. However she believes there would be contraindications with her blood pressure medications.

My question is - would there still be contraindications if it is administered rectally ?

Any help mst appreciated.

@toploader THC wont get you high if you take it as a suppository mate, it is broken down by the liver differently. May cancer patients would take their medicines as a suppository, as it can be a high dose, that even a seasons stoner would be hit hard by.

But, you should always ask these kind of questions to a medical professional mat. Just to be on the safe side, only they will know what meds your wife is on, and if cannabis will effect them. Hope this helps mate

@toploader actually that is very sensible of you. Many people just start using Cannabis without even thinking about how it might affect other medication. Well done! Do your research and try to find a Cannabis friendly doctor if possible

Thanks for the replies chaps. I knew there was a difference in the way the active components were metabolised, but not quite sure how.

Not sure a cannabis friendly doctor is within our grasp, but I will undoubtedly continue researching.

Fortunately for me I take no meds and did my own trial run. The suppositories are ridiculously easy to make and popped a couple where the sun don't shine this morning. Whilst I do not suffer anything like my wife, I felt very rapid relief of the lower back and hip pain I do get. Enough of a success in my eyes to follow this line of enquiry.

Perhaps 'Bottomloader' might be a more appropriate handle for me Smile

Got to agree with both of the above statements. I’m not a doctor but have heard that cannabis can effect the way blood moves through the body. It’s always best for someone on meds already to let their doctor know they are also medicating with cannabis. In the USA, patient/doctor confidentiality protects you from your your doctor reporting you to law enforcement but a cannabis friendly doctor is always best in this regard. Hope your wife finds the relief she needs. Cannabis is very effective on my lower back pain and associated nerve pain and I hope it works equally as well for her.

@toploader I Agree with the others on here about giving any form of medical advice.

But you may want to fire "making cannabis topicals" in to YouTube. You can normally buy in the base carrier creams online. Basically the same thing used in creams etc you'd buy in a store.

That way you can just rub the cream on to the area where the pain is.
