Title:

Grower Urban grows Cobra Autoflower in Solo cups under LEDs

Link to strain: Cobra

20200502 203802

Medium:

Trying a few different things to see what works best for me (amended soil, amended coco, hydro fed coco and hydro fed soil).

Size of Grow Area and number of plants:

Have a 2x4x5 and a 2x2x5 tent that they will be moved around in.  Starting 20 seeds but there will be other plants in each tent.

Lighting:

Mars Hydro TS600

Invisible Sun ISH265R

Extraction:

Vivosun 4"

AC Infinity 6" (reduced to 4" at filter)

Pot Sizes:

Solo cups (12oz I believe)

Nutrients:

Some will get dry amendments and others will be fed hydro nutes.

Other Equipment:

PH spa strips, circulation fans, thermometer, RH meter, dehumidifier/humidifier, timer

Plan for the grow:

Probably just let em grow.  Will remove side branching as needed but Cobras don't usually have much so we'll see.  Goal is 1 single fat cola per plant.  I'm hoping to limit the plants to there solo cup footprint (or only a few inches out), if I'm able to next run will be like 100 seeds😅

They got planted in their peat pods a few days ago.  Really should go into solo cups tonight but I'm way too knackered after work today, tomorrows project.

Looks like 17 have popped out of 19 (lost 1 during planting ☺️).

Good luck mang. Bold project that should provide some really good info. I’m loving this new thread and all these new micro experiments and projects.

I'm smiling from ear to ear you are growing in similar size tents to me I've often wondered whether small pots and plants would be more productive than normal sizes I'll sit down comfortably and find out Thumbs Up

@wrh interesting concept isn’t it. From what I have looked at, growing in micro containers could actually meet or even exceed the yield of regular size plants if done correctly. The downside is that plants in smaller pots need lots of care.

@monkeydo @wrh I did a very simple solo cup grow before and very happy with results.  The plants obviously weren't big but believe I can get just as much off them as 2 or 3 big plants in the same size grow area (and no popcorn larf).

Plus they finish in about 2 months so less time for me to potentially 🤬 it up 😅 (but I'll still find a way, I always do 🤣😂🤣)

So I've been a busy boy this morning.

20200816 114716

Got the seeds planted and divided into 5 groups.

Group 1 - Coco with Hydro nutes x3

Group 2 - Soil with Hydro nutes x3

Group 3 - Amended Coco x3

Group 4 - Amended Soil x3

Group 5 - Plan Jane ProMix x5

20200816 103427

I have heard pros and cons for using ProMix but figure it is available everywhere (in Canada at least), simple (feeds for upto 3 months) and fairly cheap ($5 a bag).  Not sure how it will do but want to give her a go as it would be the easiest for people wanting to experiment with a grow like this.

I plan to just water groups 3-5, possibly top dressing 3 and 4 later in the grow.  If group 5 really turns to shit I may use hydro nutes but only as a last resort.

They are all currently sitting under the ISH265R (dimmed all the way down) but will get moved the Mars TS600 shortly

Listened to a show on “Hydro Hustlers” that recommend running Pro Mix like hydro. One of that panel was a professional grower that used Pro Mix at work. Just throwing that out there in case the plants in that start showing issues. Never used it myself as it isn’t available here, no grow shops.

@monkeydo ya heard that most ProMix products are mostly peat (I think).  Im using their Orgnaic veggie mix because its available at Walmart, Lowes, Canadian Tire ect (at least in Canada) and says it can feed for UPTO 3 months. They are probably using the HP found in many grow shops here (without any nutes added to give the grower more control).

I do fear that I might run into issues but want to try a super simple grow that anyone can replicate with basic garden centre items.  Time will tell but not ruling out using hydro nutes 😉

Thanks for the heads up, this is going to be fun grow!

Haven't been very attentive to these the past couple of days (crazy busy).  Think I over watered them a few days ago and they are still recovering.  Doesn't help that the light is a little too high for them (other plants in the tent and fully dimmed).

All will get moved to the 2x2 tent this weekend

Finally moved the little bastards to the 2x2 and gave them all a good overwatering again lol (hydro nutes in the back, amended in the front and plan old ProMix to the right. BLUE = Coco RED = Soil).

My garden soil last time was alot easier to maintain moisture without over saturating (but was bottom watering and in the 2x2 pretty much from start so we'll see).

Been a pain in the arse making multiple different feed/water bottles.  Hydro got their first real feed yesterday/today of <.5ml A+B per 1+ liter of water (plus a touch of CalMag).  Only 1/8 strength CalMag previously.  Amended and Plane Jane got 6ish PH'd water (both soil and coco 🤞).

No real difference in mediums yet IMO, just the cocos need more water (causing me to over water the soils lol).  The less is more approach seems to be in the lead but sure it will require a helping hand of hydro nutes (🤞🤞 it doesn't and it's that easy)

Always happy to see these posts brother. Yer, keeping coco wet can be a right pain in the arse but it’s worth it imo. Hoping to see some kind of difference in late veg whatever that difference might be.

Looks like the 1st male is showing itself.  Won't toss it as I do want to select a champion male to recross into the best female.  The early flowering is usually the trait I look for in a male so this could be it.

Showing early man! Thats definitely a good trait. You know there is something you can spray on a male, to make it turn female, but you cant smoke it. It is more for breeding, so you can see what female traits a male has..... interesting shit lol

@macky ya I've heard of that stuff, thinks its FloraMax or something.  Not sure how it works exactly (like do you spray half the plant to see what the fem looks like and leave the other half to male pollen sacs? Can you in theory self a male?  Would all the seeds be male?).  Very interesting and might try it at some point.

For now I just go by how fast it starts to flower, vigor/health/size and forgiveness (over/under watering ect).  Trying to make a hair trigger auto that flowers at the first sign of root stress (prefect for micro grows 😉... but not so much for big plants)

This is an outlier from the last solo cup run I did.  Didn't want to start flowering when the others did so transplanted it outside in a 7 ish gallon bucket.  Should yield a little more LOL

Sparky is already wanting to drop pollen

20200831 183441

So he is being quarantined for the time being.

Had to cull 3 other males that just started showing and ended up killing 1 of the hydro nute coco plants due to my poor watering practices (over and under, repeat lol)

20200831 183909

So far the plan soil/water (top right) is doing the "best" but do expect it will need a little boost of nutes at some point.  The amended soil/coco (bottom left) has been fairly consistent other than the 1st male (sparky) that shot up.  The hydro nutes (top left) has done the worst/inconsistent but that's due to my watering/feed schedule.

Think I bit off a little more than I can chew on this one.  Different combinations of mediums and feeds makes it a real pain in the ass to stay on top of not to mention accurately mixing diffent nutrients/PH for a 300ml-750ml watering.

Think next run I will go back to all soil with hydro nutes.  Had good results, easy to maintain and I could easily  adjust nutes as needed (but don't quote me on it, alot can change in 2 months lol)

So this girl that didn't get stolen from outside got put in the 2x2

20200902 171730

And all the solocups moved into the 4x2 and made a huge mess doing so (knocked over a plant)
