I've got a good idea of what the problem is but would really appreciate some other opinions. I've uploaded a few pics to illustrate. One is a Runtz and the other a Gushers. They are both at day 13 of flowering when the photos were taken. Any and all opinions welcomed please. Many thanks!

@highlanddoobie Because of the small pot youre going to get problems with this grow mate, thats just the way micro grow go. I think the other lads have mentioned some good things so far Smile Make sure youre not watering too much, its a small pot but it still needs a good wet and dry cycle if its in soil. Make sure the pH of the water/ feed is on point too. But in a small pot, the roots will be restricted and you are going to see issues so dont be too concerned over it Smile

Monkey will have some good advice, he is a very good at micro growing, hope he can give you some ideas later when he gets online

Thanks @macky much food for thought and I really appreciate the advice, some solid points there for me to take away and apply going forward... πŸ‘

It looks a little over fed, some straight Ph'd water and let them dry out some more, maybe. I'm using super soil for the first time but hail from a long line of water babies. It looks toxic with it dark color and clawing leaves, but since your only on day 13 you can still try and right it a bit. One of the other soil grower will chime in and see what they think. Good luck man.

@woodi2 Thanks for replying! I was pretty sure that the clawing leaves and the dark green colour was too much nitrogen but I think I was lucky that it's only affected 2 out the 8 ladies. Some of the other growers have pointed out overwatering which I'm not surprised about as this is my first time growing in soil, years ago I always used coco and it's very easy to tell by the weight of the pots if they are getting dry with that stuff. Soil is a whole new ball game for me as far as the watering goes!!

What is the content of the soil? Β They look over watered to me. How much are you watering and what size is your pot? If they are in soil, then watering every 1-2 days is way too much most every soil unless they are in a very hot and dry place.

@im_sparky Hi, thanks for taking a look and replying! I'm using Biobizz All Mix, the pot size is small, think they are just under 2L about 1.8L from memory. I did wonder if I'm overwatering given the droopy leaves but this is the first time I've ever grown in soil... Have always used coco when I used to grow years ago and it's very easy to tell by the weight of the pot if they're getting dry or not with that stuff! This is a whole new ball game - I've even tried weighing an identical pot with some of the all mix I allowed to dry out and compared that with the plants but even then, I still just wasn't sure - worrying about letting them dry out too much and going in the next day to find them all wilting... Lol.Β  aaaarrghhh!Β  I've got one of these moisture probe things I got from Amazon but the bit that goes in the soil isn't exactly small and I don't like using it in case I damage the roots!!

@highlanddoobie OK, so almost certainly you are over watering and over feeding. The best way to check soil for water is to literally put you finger into the soil about 1 to 1 1/2 inches down at the outer edge of the pot and feel it. You want moist, but not wet. Of course, there is a range of moist, but wait until it is on the drier side before watering again. Water slowly in small amounts and wait to see how it penetrates. I do give an occasional soil drench to make sure there are no dry pockets β€” about every 2-3 weeks. As for regular watering, I’d wait several days and check it each day. I bet you will not need to water except every 4-5 days once you let this dry out a bit. Yes you have a small pot which means more frequent watering than a big pot, but your pot is not tiny. Remember, soil with good organic material holdsΒ water well.

To give you some idea on how much I water, my 5-gallon pots (20-liter) get about 1/3 gallon (1.3 liters) about every 5 days. At this rate, I find only trace amounts of water in the saucer after about 1/2 hour of wait time when I check.

She doesn’t look that bad. I’d say you’ve done well to get to this point. My micros are in coco so this is a bit different with the soil. You cannot overwater coco but you can easily over water soil. They look a little over fed, dark green and slight clawing. For the time being I’d start alternating plain ph balanced water and water with nutrients. Be sure to let the pots dry out before watering again as that’s really critical for soil grows. The lower yellow leaves are no big deal, she’s focusing on the buds. When you see nice fluffy white buds it’s going to be time to remove the lower canopy anyway with the lollipopping so no worries there. That’s probably a week away, maybe a bit more.Β

Micro grows can be tricky at first. I’ve moved this thread to the soil diary section for you so you can continue to post about this grow. Running a diary is the best way to reach harvest because the members here will help you as needed. You will still get the attention of the membership and all the help and also have a record of what worked and what didn’t, very handy imo. We’d all like to see you succeed and to follow the progress.

Hi @monkeydo thanks for the reply and other micro grow tips, very much appreciated..! I was going to wait until around day 25 to do a small amount of defoliation and I was only going to take off the branches at the first node as the girls have not stretched as much as I expected (probably due to the pot size/restricted root space?) I flippem them when they were only about 7" as my tent is only 1 metre tall and I was crapping myself that they would stretch 2.5-3 times like the bigger ones I used to grow years ago!!! Lol. As it turns out they are only around 13" and I'm now at day 14 of flowering so I imagine the stretch phase will be nearly over although they could keep on going for another week possibly..? Given that they are not very tall, would you recommend removing more of the lower canopy? The light penetration is quite good from the spider farmer SF-2000 and I had it in my head to keep the pruning/defoliation fairly minimal but then I've never tried a micro grow before so the more advice I can get from experienced micro grower like yourself, so much the better!!!

@highlanddoobie we call this style of growing β€œMicro Growing” because the intent is to keep the plants rather small but max the buds. Personally I think coco is the ideal media for this because it manages water so well. If you’re used to coco before give it a shot in the micro next time, I think you’ll like it.Β

The lollipop is something you’re going to have to figure out for yourself. My experience tells me that because of the smaller root zone, there can only be so much bud so I trim the lowers in favor of higher quality tops. If you’ve got those 2 small plants under a SF2000 then light levels won’t be a problem. You could probably get 3 or 4 more in there. Try to aim you defoliation to focus the bud growth on the upper most buds. This has worked well for me. Here’s a couple of micros I’ve done.Β

https://percysgrowroom.com/forum/plant-pictures/mug-shots/

All but one of my micros are from seed. The one from a clone stretched the least less but still made good smoke. You can see how I trim them up for flowering to get the best quality and highest yield. As you do more micro runs you’ll develop your own trim style.Β

@monkeydo Another question... Is there a way to change the tread title from Opinions requested now that it's in the grow diary soil section...? Thanks

Thought I'd just add a pic of all the girls together, not just the troubled ones.... 😊  On stage, we've got Pineapple Chunk, Gorilla Zkittles, Runtz, Gelato #33, Gushers, Train Wreck and 2 White Widows (I'm an oldie so I love a classic strain, reminds me of many happy visits to Amsterdam when I was just a lad.. LOL)

@highlanddoobie looks great mang.

That edit requires an admin/moderator to do it. I’d be happy to change the title for you. What would you like it to be.Β

@monkeydo Thanks for doing that and for the comment man! The tent is 0.75 x 0.75 x 1 M tall, I had to have something that wasn't too tall because of where I had to site it. It's very different to the 1.5 x 1.5 M one that I had years ago and it's very challenging trying to control the environment in such a small space but I'm getting the hang of it. Also, the extract fan had to be sited outside the tent which is not ideal but there was just not enough room to have the carbon filter and the fan attached together!!!

All my tents are also set up like this, extractor and filter are external. With smaller tents it makes sense if it’s possible.

@monkeydo okay, filter as well. So have you got the extractor fan blowing the "fragrant"Β  air through the carbon filter?Β  Or am I being stupid... Lol.

the extractor sucks the air out of the tent and pushes it out through the carbon filter. Nothing inside but about a couple cm of the suction hose. My other tents are similar but use a bend to make everything more compact.

Well this is the day 21 update. The girls seem to be more or less where I would expect them to be at this stage. The Runtz with the overfeeding issue has been given plain ph'd water twice in a row and it's slowly losing the very dark green hue and lightening up but the clawing leaves aren't showing any signs of unclawing but hey, maybe they won't... The strange one is the Gushers that definitely looked like an overwatering problem - intende to leave it 2-3 days to dry out a little before feeding again but then it started wilting after just over 2 days. Even a few hours after it's been fed, the fan leaves just never perk up properly - whereas the other girls leaves all adopt that praying stance. Maybe it was overwatering earlier in veg and that did some kind of damage to the root system, but i'll be honest and admit that I have no idea!! It seems to be flowering okay but I don't reckon it will yield much (even though I'm not expecting that much from all of them given it's a micro grow). It looks like a pheno with more sativa then indica in it judging by the height and internodal structure..?!

I dont know mate, it looks like a "broad leaf", which is indica, instead of "narrow leaf" which is sativa.... Smile So I would lean more toward it being indica than sativa by the look of the leaves Smile

Hot on the heels of the last update is this day 28 installment. Not much to say really other than they still seem to be where I would expect... Did a little bit of pruning low down and also some defoliation, again low down and anything that wasn't catching light or blocking bud sites. They appear to have finished growing upwards now which is a relief given the tent is only 1M tall!! Drinking more now so having to water/feed every 1.5 days but being careful to follow @im_sparky 's advice to avoid overwatering again. Just hoping they start pumping out more of those lovely pistils in week 5....
