Questions Can you cut off fan leaves in week 2-3?

Is this week 3 of flower? I’d have to assume it is because you definitely want to leave the fan leaves on a seedling.

Personally I only remove the fan leaves and small buds from the lower part of the plant (lollipopping). If the canopy isn’t overcrowded the fan leaves are good to have as they provide much of the energy the plant will need to flower. The old bro science saying the fan leaves block the light and take energy away from the plant is wrong. The opposite is more true, leaves catch and harvest the light and supply energy for bigger buds. 

I seen lots of people defoliating days 21 and 42 of flower for light after stretch and wen the buds start to ripen to allow penatration and air flow, cutting all lower larf and entire branches that won’t make it up to the top, basically opening up the cannapy to as many bud site as possible.

@monkeydo I'm in week 3 of veg, this is my first grow and I'm doing it in a small cabinet, so far so good but the fan leaves are starting to hit the wall inside and I don't know if that is ok or not.

@goldseal94 what do you mean by tuck? This is my first grow so I don't know anything tbh 🤣

Leave as much as you can to fill the space.

@mason_21, you tuck the large fan leaves instead of cutting them off. You push them down below the canopy, and find something for them to hook on to if they won't stay by themselves. Just keep pushing down everything that's big, then the new growth tips will be revealed. You want to keep those growth tips clear and full of light and they will response. If they stay covered, by the big fans, they will be slower growing. So tuck and don't worry you will snap a couple of leaves off, but try not to.

As Monkeydo has said, these plants put a lot of time and energy into these leaves and their structure. Nature doesn't do anything without a reason and she's been doing it longer then we have. If I think I have a better way, she'll gladly correct me and put me in my place. That's why we say, keep it simple and you'll go farther. It's been beat into my head! lol

@woodi2 I didn't know if it was ok to cut fan leaves off before flowering was ok but now I know lol 😂 thanks for the advice bro it will help a lot.
