looks like woodi has covered the question for you. You can tag people individually by adding them to a post with the @ symbol ie @woodi2 etc, if you reply to someone's post it will automatically tag them at the beginning before you write anything, same as this reply has your user name tagged at the start of this reply. Or as woodi said(such a helpful fellow old woodi), you can reply to the thread as a whole and anyone subscribed to the thread will get an email notification happy growing!

When a person responds to a post, meaning all the people who popped by my intro thread to say hello, do they automatically get subscribed?
Trying to understand when to use @(someone) and when it isn’t needed.

@soiledseed No worries mate, when we say we are all over here on percys we mean it lol. Getting nicer now over here, still warming up but the rain has eased up a bit at least, I am contemplating chucking an auto in the dirt this week outside just for laughs, I decided my indoor tent isn't worth running this summer since I have enough on hand and I would need to run aircon the whole grow lol.
So if they are subscribed to the thread it will send them an email but it won't tag them on the forum notification unless you reply to their post specifically. So how I replied to your post it starts automatically with the @ tag and then anyone subscribed to this thread would eecieve an email notification that someone has replied to this thread. If you want a specific member to see a post you are best tagging them or replying to their post on the thread.
So because you replied to my comment on the thread it tagged me, but when you thanked @woodi2 if you had not tagged him with the @ he would only receive the email if he is subscribed to the thread, not the notification on the forum bell if you get what I mean.

All your comments are visible to everyone, wether they have commented or not. When you “tag” someone by using the @ sign before their name (like hitting the reply button does) they get a special notification that they have been mentioned but everyone can still see it. You can also tag multiple people in one post if you want to.
Macky and I are always around mate along with a whole host of really good growers eager to help. If you need anything just let us know.

@sevans1965 yep all the mods and admin keep a close eye on this and will contact anyone if there is anything that might cause the issues with privacy. We try our best to keep everyone safe and the software scrubs any identifying data from anything you upload, however if you post a photo with your face or address etc in it the software won't pick that up so it is always good to be mindful just in case.
