Hello guys.

I'm having a problem with my plant and I don't know if it's nutrient burn or deficiency.

I'm growing Hydro (DWC).

I started(20/04/20) increasing progressively the nuts till reach 1,1 mS/cm2(26/04/20). Then the lower leafs start to become yellowish and the tips burnt, so I flushed the water and reduced the EC to 0,6 mS/cm2(28/04/20). The pH was always between 5,7 and 6,2. Till 09/05/20 i increased progressively the EC to 0,8 mS/cm2 but the other leaves started to have yellow/brown spots and the tips become yellow, as you can see on the photos. Yesterday i reduced again the EC to 0,6 mS/cm2 but now I don't know if what happening is nutrient deficiency or nutrient burn. Today is the Day 40, till the seed was inserted in the jiffy to germinate. Please help me. I don't know what to do. There are as well some higher leaves that look like disformed and one leaf in the middle with some white marks.

Thank you very much.

Hi BS, welcome to Percys mate

In the third picture, it looks like thrips, or some kind of bug has caused damage. Pic number four looks like its been munched on too.

Also, it looks like a mag deficiency. After about 4-5 weeks of veg, the plants can do with a little extra calcium and magnesium. The calcium migh already be there, but magnesium is needed for it to be absorbed properly.

I would mix up a spray of Epsom slats, 1/3 table spoon per litre, and finely mist the plants on top and under neath the leaves.

Do this with the lights off, or raise them to the top of the tent until the plants are dry.

I think doing that will help get the digestive juices flowing again 😉

At the same time, have a good luck around the plant, under the leaves to, and look for any bugs, or signs of any being there. If there is any, the epsom salts spray may help get rid of them any way. So do that, and see what happens in the next couple of days Smile

@macky Thank you very much for the fast reply.

Do you think that i should increase the nuts or leave the EC in 0,6 mS/cm2?

I will try to find those Epsom Salts and do that. Then I will post the evolution.

Thank you very much once again.

@bs_monteiro

The EC is a little low, but the leaves have a good dark green glow to them.

What you can do for me is:

Make a new feed, as you would usually mix it, and give your plants a fresh reservoir. Measure the EC, and make the the pH is on 5.8, temps are good at around 20c

Then in 24 hours after the fresh feed, test the reservoir again and let me know the EC and the ph of the res. Then we can tell what the plant is doing, an will know if she needs more or less food.

@macky When you say "Make a new feed..." what is the amount of EC that i should have? My nutrients are Bio-Grow by Bio-Bizz and they say to use 2ml per L. Or what ammount of nuts should i put?

I use bottled water because I believe my tap water is not very good. Does it have any influence?

Is there any problem to save the water, that was inside the reservoir before replacing, inside a plastic carboy to use afterwards in other plants?

Sorry all this questions, but i'm newbie.

Thank you very much. You're the best!!

Dont be daft mate, ask as many questions as you need, we are all happy to answer them. This is ow we all learn Smile

See, 2ml per litre i think is a lot for bio bizz.

But right now, what we want is consistency. So its best to leave the feed how ever you have been giving it to the plant so far.

You will need to add some extra calcium to the water if you're not using tap water mate. Bottled water usually has very little mineral salts in it, so you need add calcium yourself. Check your bio bizz label and see if it has any in there. But you will probably need a bottle of cal mag to supplement the lack of calcium in the water

You could just use the feed you have now, but for the most accurate readings its best to start fresh. How long has the particular res been there for? when was the last time it was changed?

I personally think using Bio Biz, especially in hydroponics isn't a great idea. And you would be better off in the long run changing to something else. Advanced nutrients are awesome for DWC grows. But there are many brands to choose from.

Have a think about changing to a nutrient company that is specifically designed for hydro grows Smile

Do you think I should add 2ml per Liter that clean water that I insert inside of the reservoir? For example if I put 10L of water should I put 20ml of Bio-Grow? Don't you think is it too much?

I never thought about it and yes it may be because of that. Do you recommend any brand of Cal-Mag?

I replaced all the water of the reservoir on the 20th of April but then to reduce the EC, as i mentioned before, i replaced a few liters of water. First i replaced 8 liters (28/04/20) and then yesterday i replaced 4 more liters. Do you think worth to replace all water again?

Do you recommend any other brand? I choosed this one because it's bio and seemed good.

Thank you very much for all the help.

Vitalink cal mag is good, I would go for that if you can get it.

2ml per litre seems like a lot, but we can do that considering thats what its used to. You should be changing the res once a week really. I would say a new res change would make a big difference Smile

@macky I just went to a shop and they didn't had Vitalink CalMag so i bought from Mills. On the label says to use 1mL per Litre. So should i put 10ml inside of the reservoir or is it too much?

Then accordingly with the EC after putting the CalMag I will decide how much I will put of Bio-Grow. What you think?
