hi everyone, just to introduce myself as a first time grower who was excited to start but now have already run into problems only after a week, not a good start! I’ve tried to research and watch videos and posts etc but think I maybe the worst grower yet and may have to start from scratch.

I’ve got a 70x70x160cm tent, Invisible Sun LED ISH150 Pro - Horticultural lighting Kit powered by Samsung LM301B, 10L fabric pot, biobizz light mix and royal queen seeds organic easy boost pellets (no need for nutrients using this) and trying to grow rqs northern lights auto and bubble kush auto. I’m using a fan on the outside to blow air in along with carbon filter extractor fan too.

I managed to get the seeds to sink within 14 hours and planted directly into biobizz with the easy boost pellets and sprayed the top of the soil. The bubble kush popped out pretty quick but the northern lights didn’t, after a few days I moved the top soil and realised I may have planted the NL too deep. Now a week after the bubble kush is looking rather sad, leaves drooping and some yellow stains on them too, doesn’t seem to have grown at all and is withering away, while the NL stem has grown slightly but looks like a stick! I’ve only sprayed the top soil about twice a day from the start and think I should have watered more?

any ideas of what I should have done/be doing to try and rescue my first grow or what to do for future grows to pass week one?

many thanks

Welcome to Percys mate Smile

From what you have said there, I'd say the soil was too hot ( too much food in it).

Seedlings don't like too much food, it can cause problems and its better to start in a lighter soil, like a potting mix, and plant into the stronger soil when the root are properly formed.

This happens with seedlings in strong mediums all the time mate. Sometimes, they just need time to adjust, and then they will shoot up in size quickly. Other times it can kill them.

Just give them some time, and see what they do. They might be ok. Smile

  • Thanks for the reply and advice, how long do you think I should give them before packing in and restarting? Any particular potting mix you’d recommend? I bought the light mix as people suggested that for the light nutrients in it.
  • btw love listening to you in ‘growing With my fellow lads’

I think the Biobizz light mix should be ok, but without the RQS pellets. Its probably those that have cause the issue.

And thanks for listening to the show man Smile You from the UK?

Ok I’ll try just the light mix in the next attempt. Yes, from the UK and a real novice without much of a clue ? ? ?

With regards to watering...should I give the soil a good watering before planting the seed and then just spray the soil lightly when it’s dry or water it with a can with a sprinkler on the end when the soil is dry?

Thanks all for responding and offering advice ? ? ?

Water it properly mate.

Water first, before planting, and then, depending on the size of the pot, water a few days after when the soil starts to dry out.

Dont water too much, the roots needs to breathe and they wont be able to do that in wet soil. Water, and leave for atleast 2 days before watering again Smile

I’m growing in lightmix with autos mate it’s a bit hot but the seedlings seem to come round. Whats your Rh mate? You using domes? If your using the pellets put them further down in the medium then that way your plant should be established with stronger roots before it hits the heavy fertilised part. In theory I’m trying to do the same but with light and All mix.

@3plantspete Ah I recognise that username from my twitter feed who I follow! Maybe it’ll be best to follow Macky’s suggestion of potting mix to start and then put into the light mix?

I’m going to show how much of a noob I am here but what’s Rh and domes?

this is the pellets I’m using instead of nutes...

Thought I recognised the name, welcome to percys mate. Rh is relative humidity and domes you can use plastic bottles have s butchers at my photos. Rh is the moisture  content in the air this needs to be high at the beginning. Have a look at the starting out guide mate all the info on temps and Rh are all there ??

ill have a look now at your photos, if they are easy to find on here? (Don’t know my way around yet)

You got it covered pal ? Rh could probably do with being a bit higher but should be ok under the domes. ✌️

Another questions I’ve just thought of...with autos, at what stage should they be fed nutrients if I’ve got the biobizz light mix, is there any nutrients in that that means I don’t need nutes until 2 weeks after the seeds have sprouted?

yer about 2 weeks mate then the plant will need some nutrient added. The plants will start to lose their healthy green and turn lighter, thats when you start feeding

Just a little update since I didn’t get around to creating a proper diary...

the bubble kush passed away ? and taking some advice I picked the shell off the northern lights autoflower seed and it came to life (added a picture for you to see where it’s at after nearly 5 weeks. A bit stunted at4cm in height). I’m wondering if this will actually flower at any point with it being far smaller than the new northern lights I planted in another pot which is at just over 3 weeks old and 11cm.

In the picture you can probably see a little yellowing on one of the leave tips, not sure what this is but apart from the leaves being light green in colour think it’s going ok. Any thoughts I’m right in thinking it’s alright? Excited to see things ticking along and waiting and wondering when flowering will start.

thanks all and keep growing!

Looks like she is maybe suffering from too much light? You using LED, or CMH? I think it might be a bit too close. But there might be more to it

Cheers for the reply macky, the light is an Invisible Sun LED 150w (turned down as recommended by Invisible sun for veg) and it’s at its highest setting the pulley/clips will allow (about 65cm away) in the tent which is 160cm. I’ve taken another picture to show the setup.
