Given this a lot of thought over the last few weeks.
What to make the perfect soil mix for less than £6 for a 20ltr pot (veg till harvest)
Just going to give it my best shoot
But It's got to be high quality, went too cheap last time.
This would last years (perpetual grow)
And cost Less than £50 (dry food)
and would do more than 50 x 20ltr pots
Chicken manure 10kg
Blood, bone and fish 1kg
Bone meal 1kg
Seaweed meal 3.5kg
Magnesium 1.kg
Garden lime 1.kg
Perlite on line can cost as little as 100ltrs for £20
Sharp sand is very cheap bag could last a year, top dress to reduce chance of bugs
Grow-sure soil seedling and cutting is top quality soil £4.00 (10ltr)
Mix in 2ltr of perlite and dry food( working the amounts out based on the advice on the box) 3 different mixes for veg, flower and top dress (3 weeks in flower)
Use cheap soil or reused old soil to top the pot up( soil drys out quick and uneven don't really want roots here)
Any idea's or suggestions are welcome.
Going more into to depth about the soil and dry food and how they all play there parts
Some of the plant food over laps each other but the hope is using different plant foods will mean the roots have access to all the food they need at different stages in veg and flower.

Westland Garden Lime
I think a PH level under 6.5 starts to dissolve lime and this slowly increases the ph level over time
Westland Garden Lime makes soils less acidic, enabling plants to take up the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. If soils become too acidic nutrients get locked away, plants can suffer deficiencies and feeding becomes less effective. Garden Lime is also a valuable source of calcium.
A ready to use granule that breaks down acid soils improving availability of nutrients. It is also a great source of calcium and magnesium encouraging strong leaf growth, fruit quality and disease resistance.
-
Use garden lime to bring the soil in your garden to a more optimum pH level improving soil structure and plant root efficiency

This ready to use product provides an immediate change to the pH level of your soil once worked in
-
This product can be used all year round to provide soil with calcium to keep plants healthy and strong and magnesium to encourage strong and vibrant leaves
Apply 15g per m2.
flower mix one week before turning them over to flower
empty one bag of soil in a 20ltr pot, add the 2ltrs of perlite and mix and add the dry food and mix
seaweed 20g
magnesium 8g
bonemeal 20g
chicken 40g
garden lime 8g
fish,blood and bone 20g
Top fill the pot with old soil and add some sand.
This would result in a much cooler soil mix (than my last grow) and I would top dress each pot, 3 weeks in flower with
seaweed 20g
garden lime 4g
fish,blood and bone 20g
Hey Jack, Sounds like you put a lot of effort in keeping your costs down.. fair play to you bro
I also grow in 20L pots currently so am interested to see how your mix works. I currently use a mix of organic based feeds including some dry amendments and liquid feeds.
good luck with your grow
Time to pop some more beans 😗

Thanks @chillbert,
I have 5 purple punch seedlings under a t5
Chopping my plants in the next few days( just over 7 weeks in flower), been unlucky as I can see the odd seed so chopping a week early.
I used this soil mix in large buckets (about 16ltr)
chicken manure 80g
Seaweed Enhanced 60g
garden lime 100g
fish blood and bone 70g
In a low quality soil with feed upto 6 weeks,
Its worked out OK and the plants have done really well but they got a little burnt at the start and dry food lasted up till week 6 in flower and the fan leaves stared to go yellow.
Its not bad but I think I can do much better next time.
@jacks_farm sounds like you had a decent result last time around.. fading after week 6 is not so bad.. If you got some seeds, it could be genetic instability (seeds not inbred enough times to eradicate such traits) or some stress during grow.. a few isn’t an issue and some strains can be prone to producing tiny amounts of ‘female’ pollen which self pollinate to create a few seeds
Enjoy your harvest dude
Time to pop some more beans 😗
Update 12 days from seed
(Purple punch)
The roots looking very healthy in 1/4 ltr pots and I am now watering the plants from the bottom (some plastic bag between two pots stops it leaking), soil and small amout of lime
Looking very nice for 12days !
Time to grow old disgracefully.
@jacks_farm how long will you keep them in the low nutrient soil ?

Clones and seedling 🌱 should start off with some very low nutrients soil and when you pot them up into a larger pot they will need a little more food, been thinking about it and 1 tsp of seaweed meal in a 1ltr pot of soil ( same soil) and a pinch of garden lime should keep them happy for a week or two.
The next time I pot up (20ltr),
I will have to give them a lot of nutrient a week before flower, they will need loads of nutrients over the next 5 weeks, for plant growth(strech and bud development)
Last time I should have top dressed the soil 3 weeks in flower and this would have kept the plants happy till harvest
