Hi All, my nuits arrived today, my water was ready at 6.5 ph, added the nuits and it went down to 5.1. So, after adding nuits am I meant to up the PH again or is it "normal" for nuits to do that?
Thanks

Yes Ali, most nutes will lower the ph of your water. There are a few that will move the ph the other way, like a silicon supplement, but most will drop the ph. Adjust with either ph up or baking soda after everything else is added

@monkeydo Thanks Monkey, good to know. I think Eve will be very happy to get the good stuff at last 🙂 Similarly, then, I can reverse the situation, by using the nuits as a natural ph down when I'm ready to water? My 24 hour rested water is usually around 8.5 ph, so I can add nuits, check ph and it might work perfectly to get to 6.5.

Yes, if adding the nutrients causes your ph to end up in the acceptable range you are fine, perfect actually. With that being said, don’t adjust your nutrient levels to achieve ph but adjust ph only after the proper nutrient concentration is added to your water.

@monkeydo Absolutely, I'll only use the right dose of nuits and any other ph alterations will be done with lemon juice or baking powder. It would seem perfectly symbiotic if the nuits I chose, get the PH just right, though. Ha. Thanks, mate. 🙂

There is a nutrient line that is designed to do exactly what you envision, the one I currently use. Advanced Nutrients ph Perfect line automatically buffers your ph to the ideal level and holds it there for several days. Not too many here use this line, probably because it’s more expensive but 2 kits (a&b grow, a&b bloom) lasted me 1.5 years growing 2 plants at a time so I considered it affordable (I run very low nute levels). One downside is that these nutes use a salt buffer to achieve the ph balance. This buffer will raise the EC a little and some growers prefer to avoid this favoring lower EC and opting on adjusting ph manually.

@monkeydo That is ideal, man, minimum amount of interference with nature, everything working in harmony...so much better. I love the Sensi range..but I know from all of the advice on here, don't over invest at the start, just learn the basics and then spend a bit more when you can, for longer term growing.
EC and TDS plays a big part, the meters are next on my (ever growing)list. I haven;t stressed myself reading about it too much, as can;t do anything about it till I get those meters lol.

@alij68 EC and TDS are the same meter, just in case you didn’t know. Good news, only one meter needed, WooHoo! You hear us every week say it Ali, keeping it simple is always best. Glad you have been not only reading but also understand, 👍👍

@alij68 just reading thru the post Ali just want to make sure you understand that when watering  adjust your Ph down with the Lemon Juice.  when feeding  add nutrients first  then check the Ph and adjust as necessary please dont adjust down and then back up.   Hopefully the Ph will be in the ball park with the lower strength  if its close let it be.
