Hi guys.

So at the moment I have 1 plant growing hydroponically (DWC) and 2 plants growing in soil. I plan on the future to keep 1 hydro and 1 or 2 in coco.

At the moment I just have nutrients by BioBizz which are BioGrow, TopMax and BioBloom. More recently i bought a CalMag from Mills.

I know that these are not the most adequate for hydroponics but cause I have a short budget I can't buy new ones right now.

I have been reading some articles about nutrients and additives and I have seen a big choosing option. From Root Stimulators to Microbial teas, Flower Boosters to Silica, Liquid Oxygen to Epsom Salts, even a bucket of Co2. A lot of different additives and of course a lot of brands as well of Nutrients and Additives.

My question is: What kind of these nutrients/additives are the most important? And they are really important?

If you do, do it well.

@bs_monteiro you can use the bio biz stuff. That is really high quality organic fertilizer.
My opinion, over the years I have found that lots of those additives are not really beneficial unless you really have your game dialed in. Meaning, it’s much easier to damage and hinder your plants by over feeding.

I also have found that lots of fancy stuff isn’t really better than other stuff. I have settled on Advanced Nutrients because the products work, and the PH buffer is fantastic. It always comes out to 6. For most growers, that alone will improve your crops and keep your plants happy.

I have a buddy who grows fantastic flowers in DWC and he only uses the General Hydoponics dry stuff because he is cheap. But that stuff works and he gets beautiful plants.

You’ll definitely need an EC meter so you don’t over feed.

Much of my reply is similar to Ned’s opinion but here it is. There’s a lot of choices out there and most companies also have lots of supplements to go along with those base nutrients. My advice is to start with the basics and avoid the unnecessary supplements, at least to start. Concentrate on your base grow and bloom nutrients, cal/mag, and pk boost. If your budget is tight, with these these 3 and a little Epsom salts you can finish your first hydro run well. I recommend keeping it as simple as possible in the beginning. It will make balancing the feed much easier to start. So far I’m using Advanced Nutrients Sensi Coco, I bought the 1 liter kit, (4 one quart bottles) over a year ago and have at least enough to completely finish another 4 plants easily. My next nutrient purchase will be the Canna brand. Lots of people here recommend that line also. If you are starting off either of these would be a good choice.

@ned BioBizz was recommended by a friend that he used to have a lot of plants, all DWC, and he just used those nutrients. But I know that there are some brands with nutrients specifically for hydroponics. What lead me to do this question was right that. If all those additives was not too much for the plant or it had any valuable improvement?

Other thing is that I would love to grow my plants as much organic/biologic as possible.

I have a pH and a EC meter. I think it's mandatory for people who grows hydro.

If you do, do it well.

PK boost is a nutrient that contains high phosphorus and potassium levels. Some brands simply call it PK. The one I used from Advanced Nutrients is called “Big Bud”. At certain points in the flowering cycle the demand for these nutes is very high. Adding the boost helps with the formation of buds and roots. It’s the one supplement you WILL need in hydro.

@monkeydo But you just use it once per plant? 3 weeks before harvest?

If you do, do it well.

@bs_monteiro how growers use the pk boost does differ a bit. Some growers start the boost at flip(photo period only), some wait till after stretch(both auto and photo) and then start. Either way it is usually used for a few weeks, sometimes longer on some strains,  to supply extra flowering nutes and bigger flowers. For me at least, it’s not just a one and done thing.

@bs_monteiro you’ll be ok using DVC as the bio bizz stuff will be fine. You would not want to use that in anything where you would be cycling the nutrients through a pump, like in an ebb and flow. Just because the grit in the bio is will ruin your pump pretty quickly.

I know some old school hippies that use that stuff and nothing else. It’s expensive here in the states.

@monkeydo Big bud is awesome. I use it and all the other Advanced products at 1/2 strength. Overdrive is basically the same product but you want to use that in the last two three weeks before you flush. If you are using hydro, flush should be about 10 days.
That is my personal preference as in my experience, the last week is when they really pile on the resin and pack on the weight. I don’t harvest till all the glands are swollen.

I’ll also say that Bud Candy is an awesome product. Just seems to increase turpines and smell factor as it’s all sugars. The sugars really help the uptake of nutes for the plant and seem to be really beneficial.

Im psyched as I have 8 plants flushing now all due in the next few days. My problem is I have no where to hang it. I may have to buy another small tent and carbon filter setup just to dry but I guess that ain’t such a bad problem.
