Anyone have a good compost tea recipe?  And or step by step guide to making/brewing ect.

Some people say you can add whatever, some people say you need to keep it balanced.

How long do most people brew it?

Do you need to dilute it?

How othen do you feed?

I use bokashi and molasses for growing, once per week and destiny ignition tea for flowering. Both are store bought products. Easy to use, mix up and let Brew for 24-48 hrs.
I use these because I’m lazy and don’t like making my own.

Sometimes I slap my forehead

I use a microbe tea thats instant. It has a shelf life though. It seems to work for me. I've been looking into making my own again.

Mr. Canucks Grow on you tube does a step by step guide. Don't kmow if anyone followed or seen that?

I get info for stuff out of a book I got too.

Apparently air stone or two in a bucket for a day to de-chlorinate then add molasses. You don't need much apparently. That feeds the microbes. Has to be unsulphured though.

A good vermi compost, kelp, alfalfa meal and there was some other stuff you can put in too.

24-48 hours apparently. I think the length of time you brew gives either bacterial or fungal dominance.

To know you need microscopes and a load of scientific knowledge. I couldn't tell you more lol.

A podcast i have listened to called The Cannabis Cultivation and Science podcast with Tad Hussey has loads of info.

The recipe I am most familiar with is pretty simple.. per 5 gallons of water, you want ~2 cups of HIGH QUALITY compost AND ~6.5 tablespoons (about 100mL) of blackstrap molasses brewed for 36-48 hours, ideally around 18-22C. After that, remove the compost and use as soil drench or foliar spray within 24 hours. No dilution needed. You can scale the recipe up as needed too (i.e., 10gal water, 4 cups compost, 13 tbsp molasses, etc.).

For a more 'balanced' mix, use the above recipe and add ~2 teaspoons (12mL) of high quality fish hydrolyslate and ~2 tbsp (~30mL) kelp meal. Brew as before.

And for a more 'fungal' dominated brew, increase the fish hydrolysate to 2 tbsp & 1 tsp (36mL), add 3 tbsp (45mL) alfalfa meal, and reduce the molasses by 50% (so ~50mL or ~3 tbsp).

Feed as often as you like - you can't really over-apply it.

These were created and fine-tuned by the microbial guru Tim Wilson (he and the aforementioned Tad Hussey work together a lot - probably worth some googling if you like this topic). If you really wanna go psycho and lose a few hours, roll 8 joints and give this a read. It's Tim Wilson's website and has far more info than I can provide right now, or ever, lol. Plus I'd just be ripping him off anyways. And that's not too cool. @diy-rik has a solid reference to that podcast too - also worth checking out.

This link (Tad Hussey's website) has some excellent resources too if you scroll down about halfway (the section called 'Information about Compost Teas').

And for a brewer how-to, check out Tim Wilson's youtube channel. I just use a 5 gallon bucket and a fairly strong pump/airstone and just chuck my compost in there and filter it through a 212 micron mesh after it's done. I don't have a microscope so I don't know if I'm doing it right, especially because the quality of the compost is so important. It's my homemade stuff though so I'm sure it's just amazing. 😉

Temple said and linked everything I would have! Haha

I read if your temps are warmer in brewing room it can be ready in 18 hours. The longer it goes the more fungal it becomes. Preference really there

Another tip is for flower teas, adding insect frass the last hour of the brew so the exoskeletons don't turn to complete mush.

Tad hussey and Tim wilson are who I got most of my information.

On Growcast with Mary Beth Sanchez ( amazing episode)  she says that it's better to have multiple packets of amemants then one big sack as she says if it's the brew bag is to full water wont penetrate the whole way through. ( this is for like 10gal up)

If your brewing in buckets, aquarium air stones work fine, if you plan to brew larger batches you will need more air movement. Larger air pumps or different set ups ( there are some cool ones that spin the tea like a tornado to mix it)

Tim wilson and Mary Beth both stated they've had justt as good results with nothing but earthh worm castings brewed with a drop of molasses

Last tip. Don't use nylon stocking!! Your better off going to dollar store and getting those little sachets people put like little gifts in for weddings or birthdays. They work mint.

🙌😊

Like to see the organic gardening. You damn hippies! So timely. So a couple years ago I was growing in soil and my friend stops by with a bucket of disgusting smelling brown liquid in a 5 gal bucket. I did NOT want to put it on my plants. But he wouldn’t give up and my plants were in need of a water anyway. So I used that stuff.
The next day, my plants looked like they were plugged in to AC power or something. I mean, like glowing. Just to the eye, amazing.

That’s why I went the High Brix route all the teas and soaks are pre made.

@Templegrower your plants look so beautiful I’m not surprised your using that recipe!
