So, I am going to run a video diary of my new grow using Sohum! Lets see how this shit does
I will keep the typing brief and let the videos do the talking, but if you have any questions that you would like me to answer in next weeks video, post them here
I hope you all enjoy the show
Macky video looks great!
If you think highly of it, i'll me making the switch!
"If at first you don't succeed, Skydiving isn't for you"
Nice man.. I’ve got a bag of sohum in the post, and some cream n cheese cbd seeds from seedsman which may accidentally fall into it at some point soon 😉
will follow with interest 👍
Time to pop some more beans 😗
Great vid man 👌👍
what size are the pots you’re using?
I know you’ll love the orange sherbet ⚡️ Haven’t grown the pink kush but sounds like another quality Barneys product!
Happy growing
Time to pop some more beans 😗
Killed any more innocent seedlings yet ? 😀
Nice vid mate...hope you washed your hands afterwards...bacteria...hmmmm
@macky Had a look online and at roughly £40 for a 40ltr bag of peat & perlite mix with a few amendments added it's def not for me. All I could think about was the old production triangle from back when I used to mess about with after effects and other CGI software. But this kind of applies to anything in life and not meant to put people off doing anything.
Back at the painting etc around the house. But after looking at the amendments they list. It's not anything you couldn't buy in and make 100 bags worth of this stuff for a fraction of the money. They also list one as langbeinite, which is a rather fancy way of saying potash.
You're basically charging you over the odds for something you could do yourself. It's give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will never go hungry kinda thing. Sure the fish is great at the time, but you are on the hook yerself. Always looking for that next fish, when you should be chilling on the river bank lol.
And it's the same with a lot of good but overpriced products like this. If anybody has discord or the like? I'd be glad to talk over the basics of soil mixes, amendments and the like. Plus everybody has something valid to add. Maybe come up with a Percys DIY budget mix for soil, coco or whatever.
I may run a few test mixes myself this year just to see what happens. Will be a few autos since to have a quick turn around. But also with some peppers and tomatoes or whatever down the poly tunnel at the allotments. I can have say three autos each in its own version of the soil mix and say three or four peppers/tomatoes in each type as well. That way I have a buffer v one auto seed just being healthier or more vigorous than the other two.
Right back to the painting. Stay chill and enjoy the rest of your hols people.
Great video man, looking forward to seeing how your grow goes! Good luck
@herrodotus450bc Time is money bro lol, and all that time it would take ot do all of that.... Id rather pay the money 😉
Expensive is a relative term lol
@chillbert Thats sounds like a good idea mate Might pop some more f those beans on my next one too
@mackyWell this is it man. Hence, the wee production chart.
As for it taking a lot of time to mix stuff. Twenty minutes and I could have five bags mixed up for less than two bags of this stuff. Plus I'd have plenty of perlite and other amendments left over to make many more. Then chuck it in a storage bin for when it's needed. But I totally get the come in from work open a bag of this pot shit up and done outlook.
I'm a commission painter of miniature figures. Mostly historical 28mm & 15mm ancients, medieval, English civil war, Napoleonic and WW2 kinda thing. I'm pretty decent at it and had my stuff published in a set of wargaming rules for the thirty years war. People pay me to paint their stuff because they either don't have the time or ability to do it themselves.
Like you say it's all relative to the individual, and how they value their time v throwing extra cash at something. I have never had any bother with the Barneys Farm blue cheese I grew in the past. They all produced good vigorous plants. And the soil whilst not my scene is still decent from what I can tell. So you should be in for some nice smoke down the line. 👍
May be a while before I grow their blue cheese again mind. Great plants/smoke off them. But I did have the old lad next-door asking me if I was getting the smell of old socks and stewed turnips in my house lol. Like I think you said on the podcast, those things are filter killers.
Yoooo, think are doing well, but not much i going on. I don't want to bore you with video saying, "I have watered them....." lol.
So here is an update on how things are going before the scrog goes up in a few days 😉
How is this grow going macky
How is this grow going macky
This shit better turn out good to be worth the effort, thats all im saying lmao
Plants are not happy unless they are watered every day. Which is like coco...... have to ph my water, and add neutraliser, so may as well mix a salt feed up any way lol.
Plants dont look to happy, and suffering with some issues, but they aint doing too shit, just not used to seeing ill plants in my tent. Scrogs filling fast and things are doing ok though. I think most of the problem should be put down to my error. The pots are too small i think, 20l isnt enough. Watering technique is something im getting used, to but getting there.
I have four more in some sohum, 25l pots, and they are doing so much better than the first batch so i think it is more down to my inexperience rather than the medium.
I will keep going with it, see how the end results come. But I need to be massively impressed with the flavour at the end. The weed i grow in coco is tasty as fuck, and dont really see how it could get much better. If this organic shit does that, ill stick with it.
But if not, i will be going back to coco. If i have to prepare water like this every day, I might as well just stick to what i know. The only difference really i find is i don't have to collect run off. And my collection of run off was made pretty easy any way.
50/50 so far, I am not convinced yet, but we have a long way to go before I can make a final decision.
Ill get a video up tomorrow, I just wanted the screen to fill about a bit before putting another one up.
You saw the scrog video right?

You are treating it like coco...I have 2 25ltr containers...I fill with water and leave for 24hrs...all through the Sohum grows (so far 4 plants) I just filled 2ltr jugs and gave it to them as is...2ltrs to start with, then 3, then 4...No Ph'ing and I had mine in 21.25ltrs of it...our water shouldnt be that far off each others too
No issues really apart from a few yellowing leaves but they were shaded anyway
