Hey, as I am fairly new here I haven't come across an organic grow thread. Maybe I can start a fresh one?

Who all here is growing in soil and/ or has built their own soil? Anyone worm farming?

Would love to hear from anyone else trying it out!

I plan to build my own soil to compare against  a pre mixed super soil after my first harvest.

Plan to do sphagnum peat moss, perlite and pumice, premium worm castings for the base.

Crab , feather , alfalfa and kelp meal,  insect frass, a rock blend with oyster shell, wollastone, SRP, carbonite,  and basalt. Ill add some gypsum and azomite for the remaining mineral needs. Maybe some Epsom salts? Heard its good in soil

Anyway would love to hear from anyone with some experience with this method, or happy to share what I have learned and am learning with anyone interested!

For anyone looking for some solid information on organic growing and living soil. I learned pretty much everything from the podcast produced by the guy running this company.

Kis organics,  here is a link to the website and the podcast can found in the menu

So i will post updates of the outdoor plants in here

But, this is my first indoor grow and think it would be proper to do a grow diary !

The set up : 3x3 tent , 1000w philizon LED cob series ( research shows actual draw is around 230w), 6 inch clip fan,and will be purchasing the exhaust and filter soon. Believe all i would need for this size is a 4inch set up?

https://www.amazon.ca/Phlizon-Spectrum-Growing-Monitor-Adjustable/dp/B07ML3NDDY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=phlizon+1000w&qid=1562504206&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I have 2 hindu kush auto flowers from canuck seeds in 5 gal fabric pots and 1 pineapple express auto from fast buds. Would have had another P.E but only 1 popped 😔. Oh well I take it as a sign to not over do it first time around 👍 seeds all came from true north seed bank

They are all sharing the Kis mix from black swallow soils in collaboration with kis organics. This company does it proper. Everything you need for an organic grow

I added extra perlite and some worm castings for good measure.
They are on day 22 from seed. Gave them there first tea 2 days ago and am going go do a wormcasting/ malted barley powder toppdress

20190707 091354
20190707 091318
20190707 091314

Turned off the red and blue spectrum for the first pics. Back on for third.
So far so good! You see the cover crops coming up. These are a blend of clover, barley and some other nitrogen fixers. As they grow tall i cut and let them decompose on the surface giving the soil microbes some food

Open to all suggestions and tips! Always looking for information and love to share what I find.

Oh and also have a 3x3 netting

Love the living soil grows man! Looking good mate, you look like youve got this shit down!

Have you considered a raised bed? The soil will get better with time, if you plant into a raised bed, it can go for years and improve with every grow.

Yeah I looked into doing this at first but talked to the grow store guy and he said raised beds would be better for a 4x4 /5x5 or an actual grow room. I definitely plan to re use the fabric pots and replant in them after this run.

Once i get some harvests in, no longer spending money on ganj, all that funds will go into the grow set up. Bigger tent maybe, definitely raised bed if so

When I build my own recipe i plan to make enough to make some raised beds outside to re use for years to come 🤙

Update on the outdoors

All but the GG liked the compost tea. She seems to be a bit pale in colour compared to the violator kush and white widows.

The white widow's are doing so well i love looking at them

Noice!!!  I can’t use pots here the soil temp goes too high outdoors.  They gonna get big!

It is better to keep one’s mouth shut and let everyone think You’re a fool than to open it and prove them all right

Hey folks, so i noticed some dark purple on one if the lower flower sites. Curious if this is just generics or something i need to worry about?

Also my gorilla glue is looking a little odd.  Anyone else get that?

maybe just from cold mate, nothing to be concerned about if it's just a few spots. some strains will be effected by the cold more and turn purple.

Few yellowing leaves in the middle of the GG but the over all plant looks very healthy. A foliar feed of some epsom salts will pick her up i think mate

Update!

20190720 152407
20190720 152412
20190720 152400

Day 35 from seed. The hindu autos are well into flower. The one in the back seems to be doing the best. The front hindu is furthest along in flower. Very skinny haha. The pineapple Express is doing well, although super short.

I feel the lack of density and size may be because I have been light in the nutrients and not as consistent as I'd like to be. Also didn't have the cover crop protecting the soil.

Just gave them a fishbone meal and soy meal top dress for some phosphorus ( read the soy helps break down the nutrients).

Either way I'm still excited to see what happens as this run is a total learning curve.

The outdoors are happy af will send pics later!

Question. I plan to get something extra for flowering. Ive read the fox farm big bloom is ok for organics used in teas. anyone use it in organics?

Cheers happy high weekend folks!

Awesome it is on my list! Thanks @macky

Also have some lead hoppers on the outdoors, i think this is why the GG looks a little stressed for it showed bite marks first. Getting some neem oil this week  gotta get on it before they start to flower

You gotta stay on top of that and use Integral pest management mate. Prevention is better than cure with organics. Get the neem, treat the plants and the rest of the grow area, and do that every ten days to prevent bugs getting to the plants

Also, make some compost tea from local compost, it will have microbes in that the plant can build an immune system with, and that will also prevent bugs, and stop the plant being eaten.

Yeah I am ordering the neem oil tomorrow! Every ten days you say? Roger that @macky

I do have some neem meal, would sprinkling that as a top dress help or build it into the soil after harvest

Yeah they had a compost tea about a month ago. I'm alternating compost teas and straight kelp/alfalfa teas every two weeks and next up is the compost tea

Day 40, curious what peoples rules are for lst for autos and autos in flower. I put up the trelis and bent the hindus over a bit to get more light to the bud nodes and keep the height down a bit. Is it ok to bend em around at this stage?

Only thing you have to worry about when bending in flower is snapping...real easy to snap limbs as they're now set and plants are using energy to grow buds...be careful 🤣

Autos real easy to stress 😉
