Started reading the book True Living Organics by "The Rev." Reflects what others are doing here and Ive been doing in my yard. Also has MJ specifics which is helpful for me. I like the approach in general. Anybody else familiar with this?

@davetg01 I have his book. I set up a No till living soil bed in my grow room using some of his techniques.
I added Lava rock to layers and used a wide variety of amendments. did not use the amendment spikes.
I also added some worms into my soil. Ive had this bed since Jan 2021, 7 grows in it so far each one seems to get better.
I also test my soil before i top dress amendments. I have not added much to it these last 2 grows.
I do use compost tea made with compost and worm castings. other than that just 6.5 Ph water.

@twisted1 Thats nice to hear. I havent read through the layered soil stuff yet. Was wondering if it was worth doing or not. No-till works well in my yard where i can build up my soil by additions to the top - just like nature does. Prevents harassing the soil microbes. I dont know how i'd work that in a 2x4 tent, but i guess ill read through that soon. Are there pics of your beds in any of your diaries?

Not sure how it would do on a smaller scale but if you could find a 2' x 4' bed to fit in there it would have close to the same mass as mine.
Good luck i will enjoy watching your grow, if you go this way

@ twisted1 Looked through most of your grow. Plants look healthy in that setup.
I like the Revs basic soil recipe. It seems to have a good balance of long and short term, organic and mineral nutrients. The spikes & layers seem a bit strange. The reason for these is he likes to use small pots. Like 2 gallons small, or 3 gallons for a large plant. About halfway through the book he says they arent necessary in a bigger pot. Makes sense to me. 🤪 I already went the larger pot route. I've actually watched a couple houseplants drastically increase in size when replanted in a bigger pot.
Also like the Rev's organic approach to nutrition. Feed the microbes & keep them happy and they will do the same for the plant. Put the nutes in the soil and let the plant get what it needs from the microbes when it needs it.
