Hey grow fam,
Today I received and set up my new worm bin! I have done some research and have a basic idea, but I wanted to bring it to my growmies. Hit me with some knowledge! Haha
Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated!

@shonuff nice one ! u cant beat home inputs and vermicompost is one of the best imo
get your balance of greens (Nitrogen) and browns (carbon) correct for worm factory heaven - this can be a little tricky but by volume if u go 50-50 u wont be far off.. a layer of browns, an equal depth layer of greens, repeat..
Worms treats for super happy worms: sprinkle in some malted barley powder
and finally my Brucey bonus tips:
To rapidly increase the population and create worm brothels of unimaginable intensity and density (until youve seen it yourself its hard to believe!) place half an over-ripe avocado on the top layer face down, skin on, stone removed...
it contains worm-viagra. Selenium i think its called if stoner brain has the right channel.. rarish but found in avocados in abundance.. soon the worms will move in and breed like.. well worms ! rabbits aint got nothing on worm reproductive capabilities
melon also is a great favourite of worms.
ok a couple more whilst i can think...
use the juice u drain off as microbe boost and npk booster for your plants.. dilute to taste 😉 ... kidding.. more like a tablespoon per litre
add the type of things a cannabis plant would like.. such as old bananas (potassium), old cannabis leaves and stalks (perfecto!), grass clippings (nitrogen), dead leaves (great for carbon and microbes) and use a broad variety if possible.. this way ensures all nutrients and macronutrients are covered
avoid inorganic things, tiny bits of plastics, too much shredded paper or carboard at one time, plasticated tea bags and obvious stuff like that.
You can put coco, or peat, or potting soil etc through a worm bin to inoculate and enrich it
thats it for now.. im sure others can add their experiences and tips
happy worm and soil farming /p>
Time to pop some more beans 😗
Heyo @shonuff, I store a garbage can full of leaves in the fall because it can be hard to find browns in the middle of the winter without digging though piles of snow. I use it to layer with our kitchen and cannabis scraps, by the way apparently they don't like oranges or onions so I imagine that means citrus fruits and members of the allium family also. Good luck
We just smiled n waved sittn there on that sack o seeds
These are cool man, @MrsM has one. Im sure when she is online she will be able to add some input to this Do you have any worms in there yet?

Ohhhh worms 🪱
Congrats on the new addition 🙌
All the basics have been covered here! Great advice already.
They will also eat any cotton clothes you've finished with, socks, t-shirts....anything.
Try and stay away from like food box 'cardboard' they like they real stuff with the layers, I'm sure some of my worms don't like compost, they just hide out in between the layers staying fresh😂
From my own personal experience....grapes didn't go too well. Ended up restarting my whole bin, which was tragic. Restarted though and I think I'm about ready to add the second layer now.
Good luck, look forward to following your progress 🤗
@hart The woods in my backyard keep a nice layer of leaves year round. Browns should be covered! Also not a whole lot of snow here. Very rare and when it does it's usually lite
Tha KS for the tips and info! Great stuff!
This is end of winter beginning of spring here now.
