Tell me about your USB microscope, please! Do you love or hate it? Does a $20-$30 Amazon model work fine or are they lacking? Do I need an app to run one on an iPhone? I am optimistically trying to plan ahead

Yes the $25 one on Amazon works great. Been doing fine for two years now. I don't have experience with any others. $25 isn't a bad price and I wouldn't pay any more. It should be all you'll need. 👍 Good luck man.
One critical point for me was WiFi or NO WiFi. I have Apple products and the mini usb interface didn’t work so there’s a kit that uses WiFi to connect to your phone instead. If you’re running Android or using it on the PC it won’t be a problem.
The other piece of kit I’d recommend is the microscope stand that lets you hold the thing steady and focus. It’s about the same price as the scope but very useful if you can fit it in your budget. You don’t need to have the stand to use the scope but it makes it lots easier imo. This doesn’t need to be purchased immediately and can be added later if you decide to.

I have one that uses the Maxsees program. It isn't too bad. It's certainly not a macro like some folks are using. But it's fine for judging the color and ripeness of trichomes. I did have some trouble with the shutter button. It wouldn't shoot every time. But it seems to have fixed itself. Lol

I also use the 20 buck model off Amazon and it works Good. Only problem I had was with these Ageing hands and keeping the thing still enough to get the shot. Took MonkeyDo's advice and got the stand and never looked back
