Getting nearer the time to pop the seeds for my Jack Herer TG Super Soil scrog. Hopefully I'll have my new veg tent ready this coming weekend and can start the ball rolling. The current inhabitants of my main tent (Shogun, Amnesia Haze & Cookies Gelato) should be finished in about 4 weeks (ish), just about right I hope for transferring the Jack in for the scrog.
Here's my question. I have 3 Sensi Jack Herer seeds. Assuming they all germinate, should I go with 3 plants in the tent or make the number up to 4 with another strain (I have a small collection) ?
I'm wondering whether it will complicate things overly.
My main tent is 1.2 x 1.2 lit by a Mars Hydro TS3000.
Any assistance very much appreciated.
Time to grow old disgracefully.
Scrog Height and when. My auto's have just started into flower first week. Their size is starting to increase dramatically, and I've got to get them Scrog soon. Is there really a set time or height for different strains, or should I just read my plants and go with the flow. The largest one will probably be doubled in size in a week or less. She making me nerves. I've had my room Maxed Out with height before so it's scrog time. These are big sativa and I don't want them getting out of hand. There are 3 Glueberry auto from Dutch pass. Each one has about 1 meter square of scrog. So whata think, Shut-up, put my purse down and just do it! or should I wait?
I would just do it, pull the shoots down carefully and get the canopy as level as possible, even if the canopy 6" above the screen, the key is getting every shoot spaced out as much as possible in the net, the more space they have, the larger they can grow.
Here is my first idea of a scrog. This is what I had to work with as far as materials. It's at 15"-38cm above the lid. I'd heard that about correct for sativa, looks about right to me. Net size 36"-91cm x 96"- 245cm. Square size is 2"-5cm x 3"-7.5cm. Square size is small maybe? but it's ridge. I can easily cut the wire to open up the square larger. I didn't have really any other option, so it will work. It's been 12hrs and I just did my first tuck. What do I do with the big leaves that want to go through the small holes???? Guess I'll find out tomorrow! better go read
looks good man, the 50mm size is a bit small but you can skip every other and problem solved. No need to cut anything. You are just looking for enough spacing between colas, bigger space means a bit more area to develop properly
Random acts of kindness make the world a better place
The screen looks great, at this stage I would pull the shoots down(looking at your setup, some weights on string would pull the shoots down and top the center shoots a few more times, imo pulling the shoots in and out of the net is not the best way ( your going to break and damage your shoots but many growers get great results doing this way, I have tried both ways and the way I do my scrog gives me the best results and reduced the veg time by weeks), getting the canopy very wide and Bushey and I use the screen to support the shoots, this results in the shoots being a lot shorter and thicker, inturn giving you larger cola's and a bumper crop
You don't want every square filled, you want a good 6" of space between each shoot
Over the years with every strain I have grown the tops of the shoots really bush out with leaves round the top of the shoots and they become a good 5-6" wide about 3-4 weeks in flower so you want to take this into consideration, this is why you see the odd grow with a few massive long cola's.
In veg if the plants are very heathly you can remove most the large fan leaves and top the plants lots of times, it's all about getting a large number of top, for example you may need 16 tops ( main shoots on each plant)
As you get the plants really bushy in veg and you have enough healthy thick shoots 6" long, flower them off (12/12)and over the next 7-10 days you can drop the screen on the plants and put the shoots in the correct holes, the plants will carry on growing for another 7-10 days and grow 6-12" above the screen.
@jacks_farm, thanks for the help Jack. We're on the same page with the spreading her out under the net. They have been topped once already, but then I had a bout of root rot and took a couple of steps backwards. By the way these are auto's and they started showing Stigma 8 days ago. So can I still top them???? My idea is to try and get them to Starfish under the net until they reach the perimeter and then let those points come up thru and the rest will follow. I'm using silica and am get big beef cake stems so I'll have to be careful about that. If these were photo's I wouldn't be too worried, but these have a height of 120-150 and I've been at 150 last time and that was too much so I'm just trying to literally just put/throw something in front of them to slow them down a little before they max me out. This is my first attempt at scrog so I'll do my best a learn more for the next time. Also I can open up the squares larger when and if I need, and I can tie to the top of the screen to. Just looking at options. I'll refine the next one. Gotta start somewhere.
Again thank you for your input, I'll keep the scrog thread going for reference. (maybe how not to do it) just kiddin
It's a bit of a gamble, you need the canopy to be more level but your in early flower, you could pull the stems down as they grow, but if they where my plants and they grew 1.5m last time, I would top them a few shoots down (center,)so the canopy is level and as the canopy stretches I would slowly drop the screen and force the canopy to spread out slowly, less stress on the canopy and you should get better crop.
Your welcome mate, just trying to give you the best advice I can.
@jacks_farm, I'll just have to see what happens and see what they do. Hell they may end up wearing the scrog like a mini skirt, lol but I don't think I can top anymore with these being auto's, Can I? I'm going to be two weeks in to flower in a couple days. I'm going to pull and flatten as much as poss under the net. I'm thinking I'm too far alone to make the needed changes, without stressing them out too much. The ridge net does have down falls. I'm just going to have to work with what I got, it may fuck up. I appreciate all your help and advise. Next time I'll use The JackNet, but first I have to go find out all the ways not to do it. Stay tuned in.
Yeah 12 days into flower is a bit risky, didn't know you where that far into flower and I think your making the right decision, jackNet a great name and calling it something different form a scrog is a good idea as there not really the same.
